This is what a 1900 x 600 screen would look like :-0

You can't really mean this?

1900 x 1200 would make more sense.

Netbooks typically have a resolution of 1024x600 . Perhaps this is a widescreen Netbook?

Hi Allocator.

Sorry meant 1600 x 900 (dyslexic!!!) . My Laptop is a Dell Studio  17 HD with touch screen. If Ken confirms he has an HD monitor well, maybe this is where the problem lies.

I run a 1600x900 monitor here plugged into the laptop using XP and there is plenty of room for the Preferences box.

Can Windows 7 really make that much difference?

Allocator.

I never actually tried connecting my laptop to another monitor so cant answer that. That was one thing I did think about but resolved the issue before I had time to try it.
