RAF Finningly was actually on loan from the Nottinghamshire National Coal Board. NNCB actually owned the land as many of their coalfaces/shafts were underneath the runway hence a little uneven due to very slight subsidence.
One of the longest runways in the country as it was a Master Diversionary Airfield. During winter i was one of the people who had to clear the runway from snow & ice, so been up and down it hundreds of times.
Anyway a little history for you. Thats why its called Robin Hood Doncaster/Nottingham.
