Can not connect to SMTP server
« on: March 12, 2008, 09:45:04 PM »
Hi everyone.

It's me again with a problem that has been nagging me since I first purchase RB back in June '07.  Despite some great help in the past from other RB users out there I have had absolutely no luck getting RB to connect to the SMTP server so I can send reports.

Is anyone up to taking another crack at trying to solve my dilema?

Any and all help and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Paul

You'll have to remind us what you've done so far :-)

All I've done is to enter the email address that I want the report sending to and it just works.  However, I did have a problem setting up my iPod Touch to send emails via the Demon Internet smtp server, and that was down to not setting up the smtp to port 25 - but there are no settings to be made in RadarBox.

If your normal email works OK on your PC, then I think that RadarBox uses the same settings.  I've just tried with GoogleMail (web based) too.

As I said, remind us what you've done, what type of email account - web or ISP, and what Firewall/Anti /Virus you are using and maybe somebody here will be able to suggest something?

Thanks for the offer to help Allocator.

Whew! What have I done so far...confused myself for starters.  How about a fresh start and maybe that will be less confusing to everyone.

I am running Win XP Home Edition Version 2002 with Service Pack 2 and all updates.   My email program is Microsoft Outlook and it works perfect both sending and receiving.  It is a POP isp account.  I can send and recieve e-mail through my HP PDA with no problems.

I run Norton Internet Security 2007.  No problems with any other app that accesses the internet.  In the past I have totally shut down this Norton to see if I can get through to AirNav but still no joy.

Even with all my anti-virus and firewalls running I can connect to the RB network, no problem.  No problem downloading aircraft photo's or populating.

Within the RadarBox program when I try to send a report to myself or any e-mail address for that matter I get the following message 'could not connect to the SMTP server to send auto-report'

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Paul

Paul,

How about setting up a free online email account such as Google Mail for testing:

http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/options/

It might just be an issue with your mail server.  I know that Google Mail works, so if you haven't tried it yet, it's worth giving it a go.  You can forward from Gmail to other accounts too, once you get it working.

Hi Allocator

I set up a gmail account and it works fine to send and receive.  I think my problem is port 25 may be blocked.  I don't know how to check it nor how to clear it.  I know my ISP does not block port 25.  Any idea's....anyone?

Maybe your firewall software blocking RadarBox 2008 access to this port.
Anyway the important is that it works. :-)

I have tried turning off my firewall and still no luck.  Is anyone else running Norton Internet Security 2007?  Are you having problems?  What are your settings?  Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

If you go to Google Mail Settings - Forwarding and Pop/IMAP, you can set up Gmail to forward the reports to your original email account.  It's a bit long-winded, but this will hopefully achieve what you want.

Best option I found on my PC's is to ditch Norton altogether :-)

Still no joy.  Surely I am not the only one on the network that is running Norton Internet Security 2007.  Maybe that's not even my problem?

I'd be most suspicious of Norton Internet Security 2007.  It's probably stopping any email contact other than that provided by Outlook. Generally a good thing, you don't want your computer sending out random emails by itself - however, in this case, it's not a good thing.

Are the emails sent from the local PC or from AirNavs servers. The reason I ask is the ones I send have no clue to me being the sender just state they are from AirNav.....

I thought that you couldn't send emails from RadarBox? At least for the Reporter function, they go direct from your Pc to the email address.

This is quite clear on the From/To on the received email which says something similar to:

From: [email protected]

To: [email protected]

Then the report in in the body of the email
