Hi, I have noticed lately that the registrations for known aircraft seem to take a long time to appear in the grid list, especially after starting the progam. Before the latest update, most aircraft, esp easyJet, BA, Ryanair and many others used to appear as soon as they were in range, but now only the flight number appears occasionally with the regn taking ages to list or sometimes not at all.

Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix available?

Is your Navdata up to date?

Also presumably the version you mean in V5.00.72 which has been out for around a year?

Hi Alan, thanks for the reply, yes, I am using the newest update from a year ago, not sure if my navdata file is up to date though. How can I check and where would I update it from?

Regards, Dave

Dave,

If you require to ask it would appear that you are running the original Navdata that comes with the system and is well out of date.  A new updated database (Navadata) is available each day.

To update your Navdata go to File/Database Explorer/Database update/Update all Records and the press Start Update.  You should then see a green progress bar go from left to right and when complete the software starts to process the update.  When complete you are then advised to close down RB and restart.

During the start up process the update completes its processing and when it restarts if you go to File/ Database Explorer/Tables/Select Table and select Aircraft from the drop down list, on the bottom left of the window you should see something like 230,*** records/rows and that is the up to date database.  If you were to do this before updating it will a figure of around 80,000 records.  If after updating you don't get the 288,*** records you have a problem and may require to sort it out but hopefully it will be OK.

Update and let me know how it went

Alan

Hi Alan, I tried the update as you suggested and the pronlemis still happening, but not as bad. It is possible to see a regn in the lower detail box, those affected do not populate the grid in full detail.

I spoke to a friend in Worthing today who has not run an update for a while and he was having the same problem, so I suggested he runs the update and let me know if he is still having a problem the same as me.

Dave,

In the aircraft table how many records do you have?  The aircraft table in todays Navdata update should have around 230,619 rows, can you confirm what you have.

Hi Alan, sorry for the delay in replying, I have checked Radarbox and it is showing 230622 aircraft in the database.

I have also added a new screenshot to show the problem, the regn will show in the detail box but not in the grid. Further to this, G-EZOG fully reported on Sat evening on its way to Bristol, past Guildford where I live, but did not fully show on the outward journey ex Bristol to Paphos later, seen visually pass my window at approx 26,000ft, because of this it did not show up as an alert, which I had set up as a trial.
This seems to show that it is not the samme aircraft that are not fully reporting all the time, it seems to be random.

May sound like a silly question, but have you tried what happens if you zoom out the map until all ads-b airframes in the grid are shown on the map?

Dave,

I can think of no good reason why they are not showing on the grid or the map but are showing at the detail box.

Have you RB installed in program files by any chance?

Dave,

I wonder why its all the ones at the top of the grid not showing.
Have you RB installed outwith a program files location?

Alan

They're all at the top as he has sorted the grid by Registration :)

Hi Alan, yes I have installed Radarbox into Program Files, should it be in a standalone directory?

Hi Dave,

The advice is not to install to program files and to somewhere like c:\Airnav.  Its the same for other receiver types as well.

I would uninstall including a manual deletion of any left over orphan files and then install as above.

Hi Alan, I tried a new install and that has worked just fine. There is still a slight delay in the planes loading into the grid, but they are all now populating, unlike before.

Many thanks, regards, Dave
