new PC questions
« on: July 07, 2013, 07:30:40 PM »
Hi, I've just purchased a new PC - old one's bit the dust - its a Windows 8 laptop and I was wondering if someone could point me to the "drivers" that need to be downloaded.
Also when I load my RB onto this PC will there still be the issue of the "virtual store"

Thanks  JD

Yes there will still be the virtual store issue so install to c:Airnav not the default location.

Hi guys, sorry further help needed - I didn't install 64bit drivers - as Airnav Dev suggest they are not necessary for Windows 8 but when I installed it, it was loaded into DVD RW Drive (D:) - this pc does not seem to have CD-ROM Drivers ?  Any suggestion welcome

Get them from here JD http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/drivers/ANRB64bitDrivers.zip Download and extract into a folder then when the drivers are requested direct the system to the folder you extracted them too.

Hi Alan, hope you are a patient  man! - when you click on the 64bit drivers link you then click open not save and I've put them in a folder called C:Drivers. But no joy - do I follow the tips in Air Support thread , if so what is the "number" they mention in the last line?

Sorry I dont have Windows 8  so dont know which number is showing when you follow the instructions and restart.  I presume there is a number showing next to \"Disable driver signature enforcement\" on the screen.

Maybe drop support an email would be the best idea.

Hi Alan, its me again - I've managed to get the Radarbox installed on my new PC - that's the good news - the bad news is that my Hardware is not installed - On the sleeve for the CD it says connect USB to PC then install RB software, which is what I did - but it is now telling me NOT to connect USB to PC before installing software. What now, do I have de-install it and start again with the USB unconnected !!!!!!!

JD - TRYING TO INSTALL RB - THE MOST UN-USERFRIENDLY PIECE OF KIT

Thing you have to remember JD is that the Radarbox software was out years before Windows 8 or probably even Windows XP for that matter so the advice on the sleeve you got years ago may not be relevant no as Windows has changed not the Airnav software.  Normally the plugging in of the USB starts the process of driver installation and nowadays you would leave the USB plug in until last.

With Windows 7 if you go to devices and printers you will see the Radarbox under Unspecified.  If you click on it you can get to the drivers tab and update drivers and direct it to the location you have extracted the 64bit drivers too.

As I said I know nothing about Windows 8 and its interface so dont know how you access this on it so I may not be giving you the correct info to access this.  If need be I can jump in the car and come and see you and help face to face.  Send me an email if you want.

Alan

A fair point Alan, but no-where in AN's advertising does it say it won't work properly with Win 8, plus we're all still waiting (not so patiently!) for V.4 which was much trumpeted and promised for around this time last year.............................................................................???

John,

I havent a clue what V4 has to do with getting Airnav working with Windows 8 as it will just fix bugs.

It does work with Windows 8, there are plenty who visit here using it, if you use the search facility you will see plenty of threads on Windows 8 as anyone who has bought a new computer in the last year or so will be using it.

Like always with the newer version it pays to know your way round computers and its not easy trying to see what someone elses is like a number of miles away especially one with a Windows version you have no experience of.
