As the sun was shining here in Tynemouth I thought I would install my new Watson Radar Extender antenna on top of my 16ft scaffolding pole for my AirNav Radar box. Well I thought the Discone I had been using wasn't very good but I now realise that for 1090mHz it's rubbish, what a difference the Watson has made. With my discone I was getting about 12-18 planes logged with only 3-5 ADS-B aircraft with a maximum range of about 50 miles, with the Watson logging on average nearly 60 planes with around 25-30 ADS-B planes logged.
I am now looking forward to getting my Diamond D777 up on the pole alongside the Watson to improve the listening side of the hobby using my Signal Communications R535 and also my Icom IC-R7000. A big thumbs up for the Watson and I can only say from my brief experience today I would certainly recommend it.
P.S. No connection with either company or it's retailers just a retired Radio Ham with a keen interest in all things Airband.
