FLASHBACK !!
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:13:44 PM »
Forgive the new thread,but I've just re-visited the 1980's................

Right before my very eyes, on the screen  N388LS   Las Vegas Sands L1011 Tristar at an altitude of 5000 ft

No surely not, but low and behold, passing in front of my very eyes on finals into Manchester!!!

Never thought I'd witness a civilian Tristar ever again, certainly not in this neck of the woods??

Think it's time for a glass of Malt, and a few hours reminissing

Regards

Rich

ps - anyone know what it's doing up here, and particularly when it departs??

Probably out of Stansted on a Busta SID. Over Shuttleworth at 10000ft. Perfect view but no photo. Non ADS-B but direction, time and heights on ANRB indicated Manchester area as destination. Thanks for the confirmation. Not flown 1011's but silhoutte and sound distinctive. Sheer nostalgia. Also shows in My Log on 17th and 18th May so hopefully a regular to our shores. Couldn't find much about owners and users on the web - High rollers via McCarron perhaps - good job someone can still afford the mx and fuel to delay its total commercial demise.

Cheers 1030

Operated by Las Vegas Sands Corp, and you're quite right, out of Stansted.

There are some smashing pics of it landing in superb light on the TAS Manchester web site.

It's an old ex Alia machine and was a common sight at Heathrow in the 80's.

Great to see it still gracing the skies, especially in such immaculate condition also - long may it continue amidst the swarms of Airbuses and 737's.

Rgds

Just heard a horrible rumour that it may become a source of spares for 216 Sqdn's remaining Tristars :-(

Hopefully not, although a couple of the RAF machines have passed through the re-spray facility at Manchester recently, so there may be some truth, if they were having minor mods whilst in for re-spray?

Heaven forbid - can anyone shed any light on this?
