Mode S - Are aircraft displayed?
« on: May 24, 2009, 04:21:17 PM »
Hey All,

This is my first post...   Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question...

I am thinking about buying the Air Nav Systems Radar Box however was just wondering if it will pick up and display (on a list) aircaft that just have a Mode S transponder...  I noticed that on the Transair site it says that the SBS-1e system can do this.

The SBS-1e Pocket Radar allows you to track ADS-B aircraft on a PC- simulated radar screen and identifies and displays Mode-S equipped aircraft.

I live in Lewisham (SE London) and spend a lot of time in Ashford (Kent) does anyone know what the Airbands range is arround these areas?

Thanks :):)

Tom

Yes...

RadarBox display both Mode-S & ADS-B transponder on the software screen.

You can watch some video AirNav Systems posted on it's website.  That will show many diffrent area of the software.

Both RadarBox and SBS-1 are Mode S receivers and both pick up exactly the same signals.

Mode S range is typically around 200nm if you have a clear view of the horizon, less if you have buildings or hills in the way.
