The routes are only shown when a callsign e.g BAW001 is also shown

And (currently) callsigns aren't shown for non-ADS-B aircraft.

Apologies - what I should have said is that only aircraft that have 1090 Extended Squitter (aka "ADS-B-out") currently show Flight IDs on RadarBox.  They don't actually need to be sending ADS-B position, indeed most military aircraft don't, just the Aircraft Identification squitter.

I understand that will change with V2.10 such that any responses to a Flight ID interrogation from a ground radar will also show up in RB, unlike at present.

Correct.  For example, my log from yesterday shows many many FlightIDs for most aircraft.  That's with a v2.10 test system.  See log at http://www.tarbat.gofreeserve.com/data.html

Also its interesting to see that most FlightIDs give a recognised Route.  Interesting one today:
Flight ID   Route      Type   Airline
FNY55B3   EGQK-LFTW   FA10   Hungary - Air Force

I'd be extremely dubious about a route derived from a military Flight ID.   The Falcon in question is based at LFRJ, looks like it came north early this morning and returned south around 10:00.

The fact that the operator is incorrect doesn't inspire confidence, either...

Sorry.  It shouldn't be long to wait now.

Yes, as with anything, you have to look carefully and a apply a resonableness test.  For example, just had JCB's corporate jet on screen, G-JCBB, showing a Flight ID of JCB1, route LIML to EGWU.  Milan to Northolt is unlikely to pass over the highlands of Scotland!!

Hopefully not  :-)

It's simply the consequence of blindly stuffing flightplan-derived routes into a lookup database without stopping to think whether the operator concerned is actually in the business of flying repetitive scheduled services.

In the case of an airline, the answer is probably yes, provided care is taken to exclude maintenance and positioning flights.

In the cases above - a military air arm (French Navy) and a corporate operator (JCB) - you don't have to be a genius to work out that they make up flight numbers as they go along and you can't reliably translate those into routes.

Understand, like was said you have to treat any information with a slight amount of suspicion until confirmed or at least seems reasonable
