Is It Okay To Let a Friend Borrow The Radar Box?
« on: March 06, 2009, 08:24:40 PM »
I have finally got the radar box after a Year of debating weather to buy it!
Well worth it!!

My friend now wants to borrow it for a week or so, is it possible to do this? or will things start going wrong?
Thanks!

You will have to install the software on his PC, including the drivers.  He'll also have to have your username and password, but as the RadarBox software won't work without the RadarBox hardware plugged in, then I don't suppose that wouldn't be a problem.

If it was me, I'd rather not lend my RadarBox out.  I've done a few demonstrations by thaking my laptop and RadarBox with me, but I've never left the RadarBox behind :-)

I hope that he's a good friend, otherwise you might not get your RadarBox back :-0

Not 100% sure where you stand with the guarantee either if you start lending your box out to friends?

Under British law warranties are on the product, not the user.

I think that there must be a case of "reasonable use" too?

Nope - there is no such thing as "reasonable use". We say an item must be "fit for purpose."

An expensive radio for instance would reasonably be expected to be capable of use virtually anywhere, any time and for a considerable period - certainly years rather than months - whether in your house, someone else's house, a caravan or a field. If it's not marked waterproof or shockproof, then don't leave it in the rain or chuck it about, but it must be reasonably robust.

Any claim is made against the SELLER, not the manufacturer, and in this country you have up to 6 years protection, depending on circumstances.

I bow to your superior knowledge :-)

Sounds like you've had a bit of previous experience here.  The only problem of letting something out of your sight, is that you don't know what is being done to it and that was all I was trying to say.  When it goes back for repair because your friend has dropped it in the bath and not told you .............. lol

Hi People

I use to let a lot of other people to use one of my RBs, but the RBs always stay here at my home.
I use a Ubox connected to broadband and only need to guide the people to install Ubox software and tell the IP, user and password.
I let him to use for 2 or three days, then I disconect the user and I change the IP and password.
I found this as the best way to lend, since if hardware goes out, when it comes back, if it receives some miles shorter .... I will stayin thinking that what coul be happened with RB.....  Hashhhahhha

Cheers

Well Allocator, I guess it's the same if you want to lend somebody your car or your television - it's the chance you take. If they break it, you've only got yourself to blame.

Our consumer protection laws are second to none. They are simple and they are effective - if it doesn't do what it says on the tin, take it back and you will get either a replacement, a repair or a refund. Those are your rights.

PS.... ever wondered why some stores work so hard to sell you "extended warranties"?

Your right Bratters I had a Canon 100-400 lens fail out of warranty Canon refused to repair it so a quick call to Consumer Direct clarifed that providing I had taken good care of the item up to 6 years warranty can be claimed. I pointed this out to Canon and they paid the £450 bill ;-)

Quite so Blackthorn. It pays to know your rights. It's not a particularly complicated piece of legislation and pretty accessible for most people..

One major effect of this type of legislation has been to drive up product quality. You can't get away with selling unreliable junk these days and in honesty most retailers/manufacturers are very good in their dealings with the public.

The problem is these rights are not well publicised, the same as buyer protection for credit card purchases.
