Alerts system query.
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:05:51 PM »
Hello all,

I posted a query regarding alerts last week and many thanks to all who kindly helped.

I have now found a common problem with the alters and wondered whether anyone else has come across this and maybe knows a fix??

If I select alerts for any particular type (B744, A332, B738 etc) I get a notification of the FIRST one of this type RB picks up but none after that. Let me explain a little better.

Last night I left RB running to track early morning arrivals into UK (I live on top of the Brecon Beacons) so get a great view of traffic arriving from the west.

So this morning I look at my log and my alerts and see that I got alerts for the First B772  but no alerts for the next 6 which followed that. Same for A343 , alert of the first one and nothing after.
4 B744's were tracked this am between 4.30 and 6.40 but only an alert for the first one?

Has anyone come across this or knows a fix?

Thanks guys for your support

Dave

Dave,

Are you talking about email alerts here, or the audio/visual alert and the list of alerts in the Alert stetting screen?

Allocator,
Thanks for the reply. All alerts.
If I set alerts to either play a sound, popup message or send an email the result is the same. Only the first aircraft within that type generates an alert, after that nothing. So say I select play a sound for B744. After a couple of minutes, the first B744 is detected and an alert is generated. After that every other B744 the RB detects doesnt send an alert unless I go back into alerts and change something, which resets it.

Most strange Dave.  I end to use the alerts exclusively to catch particular Mode S code blocks 43C*, particular flights e.g. BAW123 and certain SSR codes 7700/7600/7500/7000 and it works very well for me.  I haven't really set alerts for aircraft types very much, as they generate dozens of alerts.

Maybe you should see if you can pin down the problem.  Take everything out of your alert settings and try a Mode S alert like 43C* to get all Brit Mil aircraft - if this works OK, then maybe it is an issue with the types?

I don't tend to use the email alerts either, although I have used it just to see that it works.

OK Allocator,

I'll have another play and see what happens.

I really wanted to know if my problem was unique or commonplace.

Again as per previous query, appreciate your support and time

Dave, I've also had an alerts issue but despite everyones best efforts to advise how the problem might be resolved, I've never really been satisfied with the Alert system, BUT, if I only have 'My Flights' - i.e live traffic and the Network turned off the Alerts have been much better.

I don't set alerts for network traffic.

Hi Tramline,

Yeah I've noticed that, it does seem less of a problem.

Thanks for updating me further

Kind regards

Dave

On a similar matter - Could anyone please confirm if wildcards are supposed to work on Squawk codes in the alert system.

Would 00*   generate alerts for ALL 00 codes?
There would be safety and Police/Ambulance units in the main.
Thanks

Based in Hexham - Tyne Valley
Best view for RB is North of a line between EGNT and EGNC  - includes OTA and Spade, to EGPH above 7500ft.   Can be TRUE mobile with Mobile Broadband feed to Network.

Since around 10:00 I've had 540 alerts whilst on 'my flights' but during 45 mins of linking upto the 'Network' I only received 12 alerts.   There is definately a problem when using alerts and connected to the 'Network'

Any views or comments?

Dave,

I've hundred or so registrations.  I've also listed about 10 airlines, mainly US Cargo and Military with RYR/EZY as well and a few a/c types but these are rarer types 747 classics, DC8's, 707's...

A known problem.  If you have network aircraft turned ON, and network alerts turned OFF, then if an aircraft first appears in the network list, it will not alert, even when that aircraft transitions to the local list.

Other problems associated with aircraft transitioning between the network and local list also occur - missing routes, for example.

I have no problems with alerts, but then I don't use the network ;)  I alert on ModeS codes, Registrations, Range, Aircraft Types, Squawk, with and without wildcards, and alerts work 100% for me.

Not really an alerts question but similar. Can you set filter to show EGLC flights only?
I could only find the router which needed the to and from points.

Cheers

Use the Airport filter on the filters toolbar.

I've always had problems with Alerts not popping up everytime especially using wildcards on hexcodes.  eg 43C* I don't get alert everytime a Brit Mil aircraft appears in my log.  I rarely have the network option enabled.  My work around has been to regularly clear the alert log which seems to help.

Hoping the new version will fix.
