Out of Date Registrations
« on: February 04, 2009, 05:10:52 PM »
Have noticed that regs G-MIDK, ex BMA, and G-TTIA, ex British Med/Easyjet, are now appearing with Monarch flight nos,and according to airframes.org, are now G-OZBN and G-OZBS respectively. Is there a facility on Radarbox to amend such details.  Would appreciate any advice.

Hi DeeJay

If RadarBox sees that it already has data for a particular Mode S code, it leaves it alone, so old data stays put.

You have two choices, both involving Database Explorer (on the File menu):

1 - update the info yourself or
2 - delete the record entirely and wait for the aircraft to appear in RadarBox again, when RB, seeing a blank record, will update it autmatically.

At the moment, the automatic update feature seems to be having problems, so it may be best to use option 1 for now.

Hope that helps.

Go into your database explorer from the file menu and edit the details for the mode s codes you require.
Select the table 'aircraft' then enter the codes you wish to change in 'MS' then click find, edit the details you wish to change.

Deejay,

I raised this on http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=1052.0, I have updated the aircraft in DB explorer and all is OK, I agree that it is a bit of a pain, because as soon as you have updated one aircraft owner you will have to update the rest you know of, a never ending task.

Point is how do you keep on top of it all ?, some logic in Airnav program would help, ie if aircraft info is older than 3 months update info from GAS but keep coments.

Hi Christian

Problem is, it's an impossible situation. The GAS database isn't perfect - for example, I spend quite a bit of time updating the aircraft short names which GAS gets wrong. If the program automatically changed them back every three months, I'd get very cross.

Unless the program recorded every field on every record that I updated, it wouldn't know what data to update.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a routine that just said "if it's wrong, put it right"? ;-)

Hi Rod,

I understand GAS isn’t perfect, not much in the world that is !!

If there was a way of updating the database with the latest info according to GAS/ Government websites we would be on a winner. Not sure as you say when you draw the line as to your own updates but there must be a way of having multiple entries in the DB for an aircraft when it was received?

Bit more complicated but an absolutely brilliant idea!

REf updates - option in Preferences - to enable or not
Also which fields and age before checking.

Could use logic of - is field blank or null or '...'   then update.
Also if the Aircraft type (AT) is not in the actype Db table - update.
Based in Hexham - Tyne Valley
Best view for RB is North of a line between EGNT and EGNC  - includes OTA and Spade, to EGPH above 7500ft.   Can be TRUE mobile with Mobile Broadband feed to Network.

Another thought on updating -
Add a table to the DB of Flight prefixes, then check for Company match from flight ID - if match fails check aircraft Registration and company details - if changed update those chosen in preference table.
