Ok so I want to trace a particular flight...

My brother is away on holiday at the moment and will be arriving back into Manchester Airport in 4 days time and im just wondering whats the best way of finding the correct flight and then be alerted when its on radar (networked).

All I know is the flight time and operator. Ibiza - Manchester.

Would love to be able to trace the flight knowing he is on it!

One way would be to go to the Ibiza Airport website and check their departures board - should have the flight number. You may have to translate an IATA flight code to an ICAO code for the correct flight ID - use airframes,org for that bit.

Then put that in as an alert in RB and sit back and wait - I did this for my neighbours just two weeks ago, and I've got an RB recording their arrival at Manchester, too!

If you could get your bro to give you the flight numbers for the outbound & inbound flights that are printed on his tickets ie. say he is flying British Airways outbound flight number 417 then the Flight ID would be BAW417 or something of that nature. The return journeys are normally similar ie BAW418 (unless flying on a different airline).

Then I believe using the RadarBox software goto the 'Alert' tab and scroll across in the window which will have the following tabs 'Mode-S, Registration, Range & Flight ID'

Check the 'Flight ID' and enter the out/inbound flight numbers that your bro gave you. Then on the days of departure and arrival home your RadarBox should I believe Alert you using one of the selected Alert options when your bro's flight is picked up (either Live locally or Networked).

Hope this helps. I believe what I've suggested should work, not tried it Myself. If this is incorrect I'm sure someone will correct My errors and point you in the right direction.

Yeh thanks folks, I think the nitty gritty part of it is getting the correct flight callsign for the given flight.

One way of doing it I guess, although not 100%, would be to check the arrivals into Manchester exactly a week before (if the scheduled flights are weekly) at the ETA time and guess which flight it is.

Whats the chances of someone have RB in Ibiza so I could monitor takeoff hehe?

Recently there has been a RadarBox on the mainland close to Ibiza but it only broadcasts occasionally. I've been planning to do an outline for it for a few days now. Maybe you'll be lucky and that box will be on at the right time!

And remember that you can use a wild-card in any of the alerts, so if you're not sure of the exact flight number, use "*" as a wild-card.
