Hi

Thanks for your email. RadarBox is a much more sophisticated product that comes from a company, AirNav Systems, which is on the flight tracking business for more than 10 years now. It's like comparing a Formula 1 with a 1980 car.

In simple words RadarBox hardware has more sensitivity, weights less, has a better look and does not need a power cable (just an USB connection);

About software: RadarBox 2007 is the result of 10 years of flight tracking software development. It is high-tech superior quality application. While SBS-1 looks more like a 1980 ZX spectrum look software. Have a look below.

We have had more than 200 orders in 9 days it says it all. Mode-S users were waiting for something radically different and professional.

RadarBox features not available in SBS-1:

# Network: see what other users are receiving all over the world
# Based on the award winning 3D multi-window map interface
# ACARS Decoder interface
# Real-Time photos of all tracked aircraft
# Real-Time weather information
# Generate and share reports automatically
# Share screen shots with your friends
# MyLog: log all and share with your friends all the aircraft you receive
# Alert generation for specific aircraft or in-range flights
# Radar player to review airspace recordings
# Editable 400 thousand callsign database included
# Airport inbound and outbound flights in different colors
# Automatic detection of user location
# No need for an external power supply
# Light weight easy to carry aluminum box
# Automatic retrieval of aircraft details

Features available in SBS-1 and RadarBox:

# Real-Time Radar ADS-B decoder hardware included
# Plug-and-play USB connection
# Track flights in real-time
# Flight ID, registration, altitude, speed, heading and vertical speed

Hope this helps.
Any quetsion email our support.

Will there be a free database update for Mode S codes/ aircraft tie ups, maps, flight numbers, routings etc etc or will it be a purchase of an all ready out of date database which you then have to update yourself, much like the ACARS databases which in the end I found very disappointing??

We hope to keep them updated. As you can imagine its a mammoth task and usually require users help to keep all of this together.

Regarding ACARS you can use the site below:
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/acars

The task of keeping everything updated like that is impossible but we will do our best to have a repository.

Hi Spotter70

I would suggest you just go stright out and buy the RB. You won't regret it. I (along with many others on here) have been down the same route comparing the qualities of them both and finaly opted for the RB. What finaly convinced me was watching them both running side by side.

I personaly have no regrets apart from the  time wasted sifting through the forums when I could have been sat watching the RB

hope this helps

Guys & Gals,

Don't think Spotter70 is looking for answers any longer.
Check the date of the first post.  2007

hamerhead  just wanted to bring a dead topic from 2007 to 2009.

If you are good with computers, have money to spare and are happy to spend a long time setting up the SBS-1 BaseStation software, then you can recreate what you will see using the standard RadarBox setup.

Also, the SBS-1 does not share aircraft data like RadarBox does, so you will only see the aircraft you pick up with your antenna rather than seeing everybody's aircraft if you are using Radarbox.

So, it really depends what you want to do with your Mode S receiver.  Maybe if you tell us what you want to do, we can say which would be best.

A direct 1-on-1 comparison between both systems is available at:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=606.0

Basically RadarBox includes a worldwide data sharing network, is an all-in-one package (no need to install several - some of them- unreliable addons). Adding to this we release software updates frequently.

Also, take a look at the videos of RadarBox in action at:

http://www.airnavsystems.com/radarbox/video/

or on YouTube at:

http://www.youtube.com/AirNavTeam

You won't find any similar videos covering the use of the SBS-1
