Other Mobile Setups
« on: April 03, 2008, 04:37:38 PM »
Saw Allocator's picture of his setup while at the airport.

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=743.0

Was wondering if others had pictures of their mobile setup. I have my older setup. Was listening and running ACARS at the airport.

New vehicle now so will be making a unit to slide in the back that will hold my laptop, scanners, inverter, scope, books and bottled water. Also will make it so it can sit on a small table to use outside the house.

I seem to get quite a crowd around my vehicle when I am all set up.

Just wanted to see what everyone else has come up with????

Thanks,

Steve

I've posted this picture again in this new "Mobile Setups" thread :-)

The kit is sitting on the rear parcel shelf of my Renault Megane, with the standard RadarBox antenna in the centre of the roof.  The car is facing the runway, so I was able to stand at the rear of the car and watch RadarBox and the aircraft at the same time.  The car hatchback keeps some of the light off the laptop screen, but I did find that a white map background with black aircraft labels worked best.

Below: Map capture

Below: Screen capture - ADS-B traffic only selected - 39 aircraft with full ADS-B information in the list.  You can see why I had to use the altitude filter to just see the low level traffic!

Can we have this section pinned please AirNav

It will give others better ideas when out and about. I haven't taken a picture just yet but i am a Radio Amateur (M0MTD) and use my Yaesu FT-8900 for listening in the car along with a small radio just dedicated for realtime ACARS.

Dual Core Vista Home Premium Laptop, power inverter, normal 10x50 binoculars and my Nikon D40X DSLR Camera with 55mm - 200mm lense.

Will take pictures next time i'm out.

I think maybe we could start an AirNav RB2008 User Group for Manchester Airport.
Will help identify RB2008 users.

Thanks
BTW nice piccys

It is CVA  (Canadian Virtual Airlines) logo, I used to fly virtually alot. I am in the Flight Traiing business now and have always been "plane crazy". My father is retired from Canadi>n/Air Canada as well. It's in my blood. Will try and update my photo this weekend. We have a "Meet and Greet" planned in Toronto this Sunday. Airport watch and the local Spotter group meeting up. Looks like 14*C and sunny. Good for Dot spotting and photography.

Hoping to see more set-ups.

Well, finally got started on my mobile setup (Part 2) and I just need to sand and paint it. Thanks also goes to Allocator for his "colors" file so I can actually see things in the bright sunlight.

Wondering if anyone else wants to add pics of their mobile setup?

That's a good way to do it!

Looking forward to nicer weather to do my spotting. Otherwise the computer just sits on the front seat. But I like the idea of having it in a case.

Thanks for the update,

Steve
