Title: Airnav Radarbox utilities website
Post by: steveb25 on April 25, 2008, 10:19:52 AM
Hi all

Have noticed recently that we are getting a hugh amounts od outlines and bitmaps scattered around the forum. Unfortunately with the file size limit on the forum, putting them all together  here is very difficult.

I have put together a site that we will be able to use to exchange files of all descriptions.

Airnav themselves have given me the 'green Light' so here we go.

Please bear in mind it is its infancy at the moment, but any comments, suggestion etc are more than welcome. Please take a look and see what you think.

very good idea indeed
if you can also redirect to potential sbs-1 utilities that were positively tested on the Radarbox (like google earth trajectories)

Steve,

I'm not sure how much space you have, but if you want to host these 2 RadarBox rbl recorded files of mine (each approx 1.7 mb), you are most welcome.

http://www.rafars.org/Downloads/

People can download RB V1.5 from this forum, and play recorded files without having to have the hardware recievcer.

I see that there is a link to your Utilities site on the RadarBox Wiki - I wonder how that happened...... ;-)

Have you devised any way to let us know when new stuff arrives on the site, do we just carry on watching the individual threads?

I'm not sure that Steve is still active on the forum and the RadarBox Utilities site hasn't been updated for a while.

I'm happy to start again with this if anybody is interested.  The web address isn't as posh as Steve's, but it's free and there is loads of space.

http://radarbox.gofreeserve.com/

I'd just do what Steve was doing and put some of the commonly used files, outlines etc there for download.

For my CV, see:

www.assaultglidertrust.co.uk

www.rafars.org

I'll take a straw poll and see if it's worth doing - let me know.

Thanks,

Hi Allocator

I'll happily supply outlines and logos - it will be useful for new users to download them in one big file (which the forum can't support) rather than the little zips that we have now.

Please PM me to discuss and tell me where to send them.

Thanks Allocator I'd use the utilities site too, would it be possible to get an increased Navdata db? using the sbs and rb combined? I know people are doing it themselves but not all are computer minded... me included.

OK Chaps,

I probably won't be able to do anything until next week, but I'll keep you updated here.

Rod, I'll PM you with an email address when I'm ready to go - thank you.

Once I'm up and running, I'll be happy to post peoples screen shots, polar diagrams, unusual aircraft etc.  Actually running a website isn't difficult, it's the content that takes all the time, so any contributions will be happily accepted.  I'll think about contact details, maybe my gmail account as that will keep things separate from all the other stuff I deal with.  I think that Gofreeserve has email functionality too - I'll look into this further :-)

Thanks

OK, not much in the way of content at the moment, just playing with the format - suffering from fat fingers at the moment, refresh the page to correct my typos - I'll start in earnest next week.

The contact email works from the front page.  I'll publish it here as it will go into the gofreeserve "bucket" email account and I can filter all the spam using Mailwasher!

OK, the new RadarBox Utilities website is up and running.  It's there for all RadarBox users, so you tell me what you want to see there and I'll see what I can do.  The idea is that it will be a useful single point of contact for all those bits that can take time to find in the Forum as the posts build up.

The logos and outlines will be available for download soon, but other ideas I have are:

- Polar diagrams - switch off both live and network traffic and set the polar diagram colour nice and bright so it can be seen.  Then take a screen shot and email it to the Webmaster address on the Utilities site

- Screen shots from different locations around the world.  Maybe only live traffic so that potential users will see what they might see - don't know - maybe one with live and one with network and live?

- RadarBox reports - maybe just a sample report for a day from different parts of the world?  As the report will only show live traffic, this will give a good idea of typical traffic for the area.

Just thinking out loud here, so all ideas gratefully accepted.  I don't really want to repeat any of the FAQ's that are available on the forum, as I can just link to those, but maybe a few user comments or reviews?

As I said, it's your site, so just give me a few pointers :-)  Updates will be done when I've got time, although I'll try to acknowledge contributors by email as I receive content.  I'll screen stuff to make sure that there are no specific locations, emails etc before they get posted - just be careful what you send if you want to remain autonomous to a degree.

Hi Allocator,

Here's one for starters. A script that will record all the information that RB gathers, which will run until 23:59 each day and write to a .csv file.

OK Tom, are you offering this, or asking somebody to produce one?

If it's available, then I'll put it on the website - but I'm not clever enough to produce it myself :-)

Already exist - sort of!!!  Use the recording option in Radarbox to create a recorder file which is saved in CSV format.

Or use sbssim to record all port 30003 output to a file, which gets saved in CSV format.  sbssim available from http://jetvision.de/sbs/sbssim.zip

Allocator,

No, I am not offering one, my programming days are way past, but I was thinking one of our valiant young programmers like Tarbat could produce a script like PPReporter.vbs. I've appended a sample extract from the 24 hr file of some 300,000 lines produced from PlanePlotter.

So tell me what extra you need - I'm not very good at guesswork.  The fact is, the only data that Airnav make available is the recorder file and ports 7879/30003. If there's anything else you need, then ask Airnav, not me.

Attached is file saved from sbssim.

I've finished updating the Utilities Website for this evening - time to do something else now!

It's a bit difficult to acknowledge all the work that different people have done on the logos and outlines etc, so, I've got a fairly general credit on the download page.  If you would like your forum name included to a "contributors" list, just let me know.  I don't want to upset anybody.

Talking about upsetting people, did you see what happened on the Kinetic forum when I said on this forum that the AirNav lot were a much nicer bunch ........... sort of proves my point really - lol

Oh, almost forgot - somebody was kind enough to suggest some links for the Utilities site, but I picked up that email on another PC and I've forgotten who it was and what the links were .........

A small comment on the RB Keyboard Shortcuts file. On my ANRB 2009 the F5 key does not zoom the map to max. It actually zooms out a step at a time.

Hmmm... Not sure what AirNav means by Zoom Max - I just got it from the Map menu in RB - go to Zoom and there it is.

For me, F5 just seems to set one particular zoom level, no matter what you were on before.
