Line of sight calculation
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:43:07 PM »
I was thinking 1090mhz is pure line of sight when it comes to being able to receive. Picking up aircraft at altitude providing your antenna is clear of obstruction is limited by the signal strength.
The question then is how high would my antenna need to be to get a view of a chosen airfield taking into account the terrain?
I have come across this link that might be helpful to anyone that’s interested.

Has anyone else got some suggestions or links to suitable software?

Wow - what a brilliant site - many thanks for that link, Rockeyes!

It's already explained some of the nasty inward spikes in my polar diagram!

Some general info relating to these Google Maps applications: Using the Profiler and Jordans Outliner with Internet Explorer 7, the satellite photography started to dry up, and the programs got slower and slower.

I changed over to Firefox, and the problems disappeared.

I'm not used to Firefox yet, but it appears to have its advantages.
