Hi all who've gone to Win 10 - I'm on Win 8 - what are the benefits of moving to Win 10 please?

Jon.

From a personal point of view not a lot, but having a laptop with WIN7 (now WIN10) and a tablet with WIN8.1 I do like having the start button back and not having to keep clicking window apps. Airnav works the same as usual slow to start up but runs well. I've even done a DB update with no problem. My planebase2 still works as well. Took about an hour to update but nothing bad to report.

I've also moved from Win 8 to Win 10.  ANRB still works okay with no problems at all.  Just a few problems with other things such as MS Money and one device driver that needed attention, including a registry hack :(

Finally upgraded.  Everything went smoothly.  Now running on Win10 over 24 hour now.

Hi Tommy, Chris and Kenny, many thanks for your replies, the point I'm trying to get at is, exactly what does Win 10 that 8 doesn't - I don't use APPs whatever they are (I quite literally don't have a clue about APPs, I don't have a tablet Ipad - my phone is still an old Nokia 109, which is just the most basic phone only!).

I upgrade to Windows 10 for several reasons:
1. It's a free upgrade
2. Return of the Start Menu
3. XBox streaming and integration
4. I'm a sucker for the latest and newest of anything!

If none of that is important to you, don't bother updating until you need to.

Transition Report Win10 for 2 out of 3 Computers running Win7:

1. ASUS Business Laptop for 24/7 operation: RB Connected during transition: ANRB Hardware and Software running without problems after Transition. I had to change some settings to get the automatic close down / re-start system back running.

RTL Dongle: didn't work, as windows downloaded and installed newest drivers for the hardware. For ADS-B a modified driver is needed. In Hardware Manager in one of the submenus of driver details is an item that gives you the option to switch back to old driver for the case that new drivers aren't working. I selcted this item and RTL Dongle was back to operation.

2. ACER Laptop: ANRB Hardware not connected during transition. SW was working immediately. I starteds it with hardware disconnected. After Software was running I cennected the RB Hardware and WIN10 started to install drivers. After about a minute airframe icons appeared on the map.

Same problem with RTL Dongle here. Switched to old driver, but didn't work. Reboot doesn't solve the problem. Following helped:

1. Get Zadig.   https://github.com/pbatard/libwdi/wiki#wiki-Downloads
2. RUN ZADIG as Administrator
3. IN OPTIONS -- Check "List all Devices" and UNCHECK "Ignore Hubs or Composite Parents"
4. Check the drivers for RTL2838UHIDIR Device
5. If it's not WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) chose re-install driver
6. You will see the 2 RTL2838 devices (Bulk...0 device and Bulk...1 device) dissapear.. But  1 WINUSB - RTL2838UHIDIR apear.
7. run dump1090 to see if it had worked

Unfortunately I can't test a clean install of WIN10, but so far transitions have worked relatively smooth for me.

Just downloaded and installed Windows 10 and ANRB has worked straight away without having to make any adjustments or work arounds.

Alan,

No need for you to come over early to fix anything !

Thanks, Vonsmalhausen

I'm still contemplating the move from 7 to 10 - I hate new operating systems - are you seeing any advantages?

Rod,

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The only problem that I am currently having is that in Windows 7 if you wanted to add a new logo that you had created all you had to do was click on the information and a box came up saying 'Save As'. You clicked on that and it would automatically save to the logos folder.

In Windows 10 that does not happen with the result I am lost with regard to getting the latest Corendon logo you have provided to save to the logos folder. When you click on it, it now comes up as the logo finished downloading with 2 tabs either 'open or 'view download'. There is nothing to have it saved to the logos folder.

Any ideas ?

Ian,

Try right clicking the logo link and then Save Target As and you should get to choose where to save it to.

Alan,

Just done as you instructed and it worked !

Currently compiling a list of what requires your attention when you come over.

Ian

EDIT : This only works if you go through Internet Explorer not directly from the ANRB>Forum as this goes through Microsoft Edge and right clicking does not give 'Save as Target'.
