Alan

here is what I wrote in December

X

This time this RF- machine has reg in c/s box......Tu-134

 * 1AFE7F                                                                 2016/12/14 11:15:06
 * 1AFE7F  RF65151                                                   2016/12/14 14:48:40

I am therefore assuming that a fair few of my 1AXXX unknowns are now RF- registered machines!
To me it looks like they are replacing the second digit of the hex code (in this case 4)  with letter A as previously this aircraft was RA-65151 which decoded to 14FE7F. That might help nail a few in future!

X

Alan

I wonder if 1BXXXX hexes can now be tied to ex 15XXXX hexes, it works with Tu154 1B4F60 now RF-85856 ex 154F60 RA-85856. Now I will have to think hard about 1FXXXX codes!

Continued X

My theory would help tie up these two of my locally based unknowns

1A2296  RF-08854  An-140-100 16A-011 Russian Navy  (Ostafyevo?)
1ABBF0       48112  Yak-40  MiG Design Bureau  (Zhukovsky based and photographed)

Russian hex 1EA5C8 with Tulpar c/s could be RA-42440 YK42, but why the E unless this is a corrupt signal, wrong imput or miscode and would explain why I have never picked up the only Russian Yak42 I need? NB Tulpar (UTair) is one of the few operators still operating the Yak 42 on scheduled services

The theory also works with the only two 1AXXXX and 1BXXXX coded machines in the db, However I do note that some RF- machines appear in the db as 18XXXX and 19XXXX but looks like they have just replaced the second digit 4 or 5 with a 8 or 9 as last four digits are common with 14XXXX and 15XXXX hexes.

The Beriev's in the db are well out sync but seem to generally use first digit 1 followed by their reg. so maybe there is no absolute logic but gives us a good clue to what might be using the codes.

The 1FXXXX hexes still baffle me, but could be for RA-3320K style regs or FLARF- (Amateur flyer register) aircraft which do not fit into the known hex/reg list, as they do not seem to fly too high.

Alan

So if my theory works 18XXXX and 19XXXX could be FLARF- machines that used to be 14XXXX and 15XXXX. Try that with some of your unknown B407's and DA40's.

1FXXXX still baffle me but as I stated above might be to cover new style regs like  RA-3320K

If this is explained as you state, why have the Russian enthusiasts not cottoned on to this and have it on their forums.

These could well be miscodes due to incorrect setting of the transponders just as easily, Bell 407's and DA-40's are not normally regarded as amateur flying machines.

You may well be right but just like all other aircraft in the database I need confirmation before they can be entered as I wouldn't like to stand stand accused of making up codes to fit an end.  My database gives all these as 140*** with no 180*** codes and RA-registrations.  I cannot find any details of FLARF-**** registrations other than  the one you mention from Scramble 31 years ago.

DA40's have been produced by Rostec in Russia for around 4 years with the first 50 DA 40 Tundra Editions being delivered from the Rostec Ural Works of Civil Aviation in 2013 to the aviation institutions of Petersburg and Ulyanovsk.  Somebody must have tie ups somewhere to confirm or not these are 140 or 180*** codes.  Similarly there are plenty of Bell 407's etc flying in Russia so you would think that there would be tie-ups available to prove or disprove the theory.  Nevertheless unless we have confirmation for individual aircraft they wont be added to the database however please feel free to add them to your own Navadata.
