There are still to many irregularities noted in what uses 14****/18****/1A**** and 15****/19****/1B**** to come to any 100% conclusion as to what should use which hex code against which reg (RA-/RF-/No prefix). Common logic does not seem to apply
Historically all aircraft were 14**** and 15**** but today larger aircraft normally maintain 14**** and 15**** codes but can now be RA- or RF- and smaller aircraft appear using 18 and 19 but again some are RA- and some RF- .
So far it is proving hit or miss, therefore entering civil aircraft as both 14****/18**** or 15****/19**** until it is seen and confirmed appears the only real way to cope until it is really understood. It is rare that two RA- or RF- numbers are the same. It appears that the 1A**** and 1B**** hexes are mostly govt and military codes and 1F**** are factory codes (possibly 1E****).
PS some registrations end with the letter G which appears to be used in some aircraft such as RA-2495G (hex of RA-02495) noted last week where the first number 0 went missing and the last four numbers were followed by a G! I have seen the G regs quoted as for aerobatic linked aircraft.... but a FA20 and C501!!!!! enough said....confusing
However, when I pick up the 18**** and 19**** codes and send to you, maybe we should delete any existing reference to a 14****/15**** hex for that aircraft from the db,as it does not appear to be a miscode but a deliberate hex code allocation.... for whatever reason (insurance, commercial license for passenger carrying, private pilot license, aerobatics, travelling cross borders etc etc)!
