Why is the RAF Roundel displayed for I-O-Man tail numbers

I recently installed AN version 5.00.071 and also the current database on a new laptop, after a log gap without use on an older PC.

I've noticed many I-O-Man aircraft, with M-xxxx tail numbers with the RAF Roundel flag.

Is this an error caused by the Mode-S number starting with 43E?

An example:-

M-SPEX, 43E7C5, Specsavers Aviation, Beech

I would imagine it will be because you haven't updated your D008 file.  See http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=8078.msg103239#msg103239 for the latest update.

Thanks.  That came out just after my new installation.  I've now downloaded d008.dat.

But that topic does not mention a new I-O-Man flag!

It isn't the flag that has changed, but the (mode-s) hex address ranges that are valid for a specific flag. You can see the D008 file as a content register that tells the software which flag is valid for a specific hex address range.

Sometimes there are changes especially if the existing hex range isn't big enough anymore to cover all the particular airframes. Sometimes unused adress segments are used to fill the gap and sometimes former MIL address range is converted into civil address range.

Yes as Ingo details the flag hasn't changed but the hex codes range has for the IOM.  The DAT8 file on the download is from 2008/9 or so and things have moved on from then.  Similarly new flags and hex code ranges have been added on this latest file.

While I-O-M is being mentioned just thought it worth mentioning that both Jersey and Guernsey now have their own registers and several aircraft are floating about with 2- registrations (Guernsey) the hex codes I have seen so far are 43EFF (2-HIGH) 43EB00 (2-PLAY) and 43EB0E (2-YULL). No Jersey (J2-) registration hex combis are yet known.

You will find the Guernsey ones in the Navdata.  None of the 3 Jersey registrations identified yet though as stated.
