It allows the use of wild cards.

Like BA* In call-sign would look for any call sign starting BA
Like AE* In hex code would look for any hex code starting AE

Check the manual as I am not sure whether you have to use the * symbol after the start of what you are looking for or whether another symbol is required
Eg Like AE*  or Like AE% or Like AE       Try experiementing. I have a problem with my electricity supply at present so using laptop until battery runs out but not running RB.......   :-(
