Hi Alan, picking up HEX 405380 with Flight ID GVTUS - this appears to be a powered glider but its at FL170 ? is that possible?

Hi JD,

405380 G-VTUS Schempp-Hirth Ventus 2cT c/n 46 Ventus 02 Syndicate

Everything would point to it being the correct one.  Must be good thermals over Scotland today.

G-VTUS Won't be using thermals, they simply don't rise that high.  He will have long since tucked the engine back into the fuselage.  He will now be using mountain wave lift that goes up above airliner height.  The UK altitude record for a glider in Scottish mountain wave is 38,600 feet.  The world record for a glider is 50,671 ft in New Zealand mountain wave lift.

You have to remember the cockpits of gliders are unheated and the outside air temperature at 17,000 is usually between -10 to -15 Centigrade, and at 38,000 will be -50 to -60 Centigrade.

Kudos

Hi ACW, thanks for the info.  At FL170 he will need some thick socks then :-))

Looks like GIA89 route is incorrect in d/b. Correct route is EHAM-OMAA-WIII iso EHAM-OMDB-WIII. Don't know about GIA88, but I think it's routed via OMDB iso OMAA as well.

There is a Monarch aircraft flying around with a mis-coded box, but I cannot work out which one!
40695B  MON7420  EGNX-LEPA                                          2013/05/05 06:26:20
40695B  MON7421  LEPA-EGNX                                          2013/05/05 13:15:16
40695B  MON7451  LPFR-EGNX                                          2013/05/05 21:01:09
It is up again today, but no flight ID.
Any ideas?

Alan,

In d/b as wfu/stored is SX-OAQ A320-232 c/n 3748. It is back flying for Aegean and is currently routing Madrid-Athens as AEE687.

Also left you a PM.
