One more question....Are "N" connectors best for 1090Mhz?
« on: February 15, 2013, 01:10:09 AM »
From what I am reading, at 1090Mhz, I should be using "N" type connectors.  When I got my 90 Feet run of LMR400, it unfortunately came with PL259 old school connectors.

I am reading they are not much good about 400Mhz.

So my question is.  Is it worth the hassle to change over to "N" connectors at either end of my cable run or leave it with PL259?

Will I notice an improvement and less loss?

Several month ago a high frequency technician has said the following: N-Connectors are not 100% HF tight, but I haven't found anything better.

Your applied connector is good for frequencies up to 200-400MHz. Therefore their atenuation at 1090MHz will increase dramatically, wich is not good, ifyou want to receive weak signals. Further N-connectors are more robust especially if you are such a stiff cable like yours.

So if I were you, I would go for the N-connectors, but make sure that you buy some, That are matching your cable diameter.
