Merging logged data
« on: April 28, 2008, 09:08:03 PM »
I have ended up with two data and log files, one on my laptop and the other on the PC. Is it possible to safely merge the two without overwriting any previous entries?

Thanks

There is no easy way to do this I'm afraid.

Now that is a shame, any third party apps that could do it?

I use my laptop all the time when I’m regularly away, so data I collect then is of no use? Is there away to get around this for example by uploading and sharing the data between the machines via the web?

I do similar to yourself. I know its a pain, but i copy the two databases onto a usb stick then transfer them to the other machine.

I know its not ideal, but its the best solution we came up with.

That’s a great idea and will give that a go.

If it does not look like we will be able to do this via database merging in the near future. How about a shortcut option on the main page? For example one click box to save (the two files)? the other to load. Sure would be a nifty solution.

Perhaps a future enhancement would make the "path" to the databases user changeable then you could have the data direct to an add-on device like a USB stick all the time ?

Its a good idea Roadrunner, but i shudder to think of the mess that some users could get themselves into.

Exactly, hence the short cut tab option of one click to download the database files the other to upload and overwrite the previous files on the hard drive.
The transfer drive i.e. USB stick being selectable under a preferences selection. This would be a basic copy and paste function without digging into the program files via something like windows explorer.
Out of interest which files would need to be transferred?

I save the navdate and mylog databases. These are the only ones that change as far as I know. At least when i transfer them to laptop/desktop everything else seems ok.

I had better make a note of that. I will give it go later thanks.
Sure wish I could program, though maybe some wizard to work some magic on a small application we could put on the desk top to automate the process.
My skills are limited to keeping the a/c flying, the nearest I come to that art is pressing a select key :)
