What do these symbols mean?
« on: July 06, 2012, 01:46:25 AM »
Can anyone help me understand what the symbols circled in the screenshot attached? Im curious as to what the following means:

1. What does the "*" symbol at the end of the Flight ID? (I noticed some flights have them and some do not)
2. What does the circle w/the "x" inside mean?

Again I am new to this software and trying to make sense of it because I want to get the most out of this hobby...many thanks and sorry if this was posted anywere else, I could not find a thread anywere..

I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that

1 The asterix after the flight ID means that this flight has been found through the airnav network and not through your own antenna.

2 The cross within a circle shows a flight that has timed out. That is, your hardware has not received an updated fix within a certain time.

This is not correct, because of the fact, that I'm daily receiving an Intersky airframe, that is always showing the mentioned X even if it is flying directly overhead.  (Same counts for some ADS-B equipped Helicopters of the German "Bundespolizei", that are flying around here sometimes.) AFAIK the X has something to do either the airframe is transmitting a "steering course" signal or not. If one is transmitted, the line is shown in front of the airframe symbol. If not the airframe symbol is replaced by the X symbol. If anyone else know it for sure, I'd like to know it two.

If you have access to network look up D-AILA this is an example for an Airframe probably received but showing permanently the circled x symbol.
