Hello

This is a new Database Update Requests thread since the old one is now large and unwieldy so has been locked.

Evening,

somehow 3D33B4 D-ERVG RV8 Vans RV-8 Private 82198 has disappeared from my Database. Is this an error or something else?

I know this might be a bit pedantic but air arabia are the t/s and logo's used by this airline but appears as Air Arabia in db. Same is the case for flydubai (no capitals used).

QANTAS was originally an abbreviation of Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services, but is now Qantas Airways Ltd, but aircraft still carry QANTAS

What are the rules for inputting name into db? Is it what is carried on aircraft as per ACW367's comments the other day. As Tarom should be TAROM according to their website.

I ask because VARIG originally short for Viação Aérea RIo-Grandense and many others maybe being entered  incorrectly.

We usually call the airline what they call themselves and normally check it using their website

Air Arabia while they may have airarabia.com along the side of their aircraft actaully call themselves Air Arabia as can be seen the the about us page of their website http://www.airarabia.com/crp_1/know-more  We have to distinguish between the advertising name, their website details etc and use their real name

I agree its flydubai and have amended their name

For Qantas, I Aagree with the origin of the name but as can be seen from the about us page in their website http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/history/global/en  the named used is Qantas hence why we use it.

Again agreement that it should be TAROM and have changed the d/b

As for Varig, as  far as I can establish following the integration of Vargis inTO Gol, Gol announced that the brand VARIG would continue doing business and operating as Varig rather than its official name VRG Linhas Aéreas.

Quote
Ingo,

I will get to yours later tonight

Alan
? ;-)

From yesterday:

3C2909 (with PAV229 flight id / PAV: ProAir Aviation )

3D6F50 D-FOKE P46T Piper PA-46-500TP Meridian Private 4697470 (sources: http://www.laasdata.com/turbos/turbo-by-country.php?c=D & airframes / EX N2453V )

3FA4AF 73+47 UH1 Dornier UH-1D Iroquois (205) German Army 8467 (airframes)

478749 (Norway)

A875DE (would match to N644UE, but I my case it is a decoding error of A875DA (N644UA) performing flight UAL903)

That's all from yesterday.

Thanks for giving me the thinking behind the names entered in db, I personally believe air arabia's and more surprisingly Qantas marketing teams probably have not accurately thought it through on their websites but will live with it (on Qantas site the header still has QANTAS in capitals but thereafter in lower case). In future I will look up the websites before commenting.

PS Following that logic would easyJet not show just as easyJet rather than easyJet Airline.

Cant remember the logic behind easyJet Airline, probably taken from the Companies House listing and will be used to differentiate between the airline and the other units of the easyJet group.   Airlines call themselves one name for marketing purposes and another for company purposes and we are trying to standardise so that we updaters all enter the name the same and dont as we have now variations depending on who entered the name.  Go onto different websites, databases etc depending on where you get the details of the aircraft and the same company can be detailed differently each time
