B744 & A330 bigger than A380 ?
« on: November 07, 2011, 07:35:16 AM »
Just got my AirNav Radarbox 3D.

A fantastic product - works when switched on and easy to install software due to very clear, precise instructions.

My 4 years old grandson look at it and asked me this:

Grand-dad, why is the B744, A332 and A333 bigger than the A380 - while pointing to the Plane sign next to the Aircraft sign ?

Perhaps a software glitch ?

Welcome to the forum.

The silhouettes aren't to scale.  If they were, a small GA plane or helicopter would be a tiny dot compared to an A380.  If you look in the .....\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox\Data\Silhouettes folder, you'll see a wide range of silhouettes to many different scales to make them all detailed enough to be of use.

The relative length of the silhouettes is governed primarily by the ratio between fuselage length and tail height.  A relatively short plane with a tall tail like  B735, will look shorter in silhouette than an swearingen metro, which has a very long body in relation to tail height.
