I have only had my box online now for a few days, but being up 7 stories in an apartment building and having my antenna outsite on the metal balcony has provided amazing results.  I have a perfect 180 degree view on my radarbox screen facing west (east is poor because of the apartment blocking it)  But I have maxed out the radar range to 300 NM.  I am in mississauga ontario canada and I am picking up pretty much all of michigan, ohio and most of new york state. I am almost hitting the Ontario/Manitoba border I actually had to apply a "< then 50 NM" filter as I am only really interested in what is more local.  If I did not do that, I would have WAY too many flights showing up!  It is great being able to watch the screen and see an approaching jet WAY in the distance, contrails showing and matching it up on the screen.  Accuracy is superb!  I will be combining this with a DPD productions antenna that I just ordered online for even better coverage.

If anyone wants, I will take a picture of my setup on the balcony and the view into the western sky I have.

Regards,

I use a DPD antenna and the results are very good, you will not be dissapointed by it.  Just make sure you use a good cable to go with it.

Good to hear!  There is an old thread which is worth reviving where folk posted pictures of their aerials and setups - perhaps you could post your here: http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=3808.0

BTW - if you're already swamped by too many returns, why do you want an even better aerial?

Well, I plan on leaving the Antenna outsite all the time, and from what I hear, the stock antenna does not hold up to well.  I already have the VHF Airband antenna from DPD and let me tell you, it is awesome.  It really draws in the signals.

It is more of a "just get the better antenna and get it over with kinda thing".

Very true - and the standard antenna is, as you say, not good for exposure to the elements.

I'm new here, so please be gentle with me.

Am I right in saying that RB suffers from static damage (is that the right term?) when connected 24/7 to an external aerial?
