Problems Installing and maintining the 80K+ Mode-S Codes
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:33:01 PM »
Hi

Just got my AirNav box and i installed it as directed. Played around a bit and decided to experiment with my dad's Basestation SQB file. So used the Populate/Import button in Database Explorer. It only loaded 5000 or so records when there was 100K+ on basetstaion. So decided to uninstall the software and then reinstall so the original NavData.DB3 would be in the folder and give me the 80K plus codes.

Well when the install is finished i checked the Datbase Explorer and there is the 80K so great......until i exit the program and then the next time i load up the AirNav program the database explorer defaults back to the 5000 records of the SQB i imported oroiginally but that file isn't even on my laptop anymore.

Can anyone advise me what to do or what im doing wrong? I have tried installing the new navdata.db3 installation relased 14/03/11 but it doesn't seem to do anything and now the page is not working at all.

Going to Montreal on Saturday so want to get it fixed ASAP!

Ok, it sounds like the uninstall didn't delete all the files and if you exited RadarBox without it closing down fully it may have corrupted the database and hence the second time you opened it would tried a backup.

Uninstall RadarBox an then go to

"C:\Program File\AirNav Systems\AirNav RadarBox\Data\

What do you see, also tell us what Operating system you are using.

Ok I have now succesully resinstalled the softwar and NavData.db3 file. So i am now back up to the 80K Mode-s codes i was expecting.

The next question i have is do i need to update this file with;

A new navdata.db3 installation is now available:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/download/ANRB/DBUpdater/ANRBDBUpdater20110313.exe

I ask as i tried doing this once and the number of mode-s codes did not change at all nor did the size of the Navdata.db3 which is 18474kb but this new file is 46000ish kb correct?

Also i was under the impression that any mode-s codes that are not tied up to a reg as they come on to my screen would be updated automnatically (when known) by connecting to the net but nothing has updated and the mode-s list in database explorer stays at 80136.

Appreciate some guidance if you can.

Cheers

Phippsy,

Where have you got Airnav installed, is it in the default location, the Navdata update will install no problems, just make sure you have Radarbox off when doing so.

You are correct in that that if you are connected to the internet, if you see an aircraft with no details, and you click on it, the data will download if we have it in the database.

I've saved it in all the advised locations and so I can't see why i would have problems. All i have done is follow the instructions.

I have 29 aircraft on my list at the moment 9 of which have no Registration attached, non of these seem to update though and i am connected to the internet?

I am rather confused, if this is how it works its not the product i thought i was getting. Obvously something isn't right though?

When you say advised location, what do you mean? Do you mean the location advised by the installer? i.e Program files/Airnav/radarbox/data/

If so, switch off radarbox, download and install the update.  Switch the radarbox back on and the new Navdata should be installed.  Try it again and see what happens.

If you have however instaled Radarbox on c:/airnav or something else if you have downloaded the Navdata it will have went to the default location.  Go to it and copy and move it to the location of your data folder. You may require to right click on it in this case to unclick the read only attribute in Properties.

Is this not a symptom of the perennial Win7 problem?

Well the locations the installer gives is what i mean. I am using Vista.

I have done the update and once i go into the follwing path

c:Programfiles/Airnav Systems  i get the option of two folders

1 is Airnav Rdarbox 2009 and the 2nd is Airnav Radarbox

i can go into both of these and have a data folder in each. The Radarbox 2009 folder has loads of files including all the outlines, photos etc plus NavData.db3 size of which is 18000kb.

The Airnav Radarbox folder has a NavData.db3 file which is 46758KB and another folder called Import but its empty and thats it.

No Backup file has been created either.

Very confusing!

I have Vista nd XP on different computers and have never had a problem with either installation thankfully.

Something thats worked for others after installing the Navdata is to switch the computer off and back on then open up Radarbox.

The 46Mb is the one you want but in my system its in Radarbox not 2009.  Have look at it and see if its attributes are set to read only in Properties, if so, untick it.

If that is not the case try copying it across to the other data file again have radarbox off when replacing the file as you did when downloading the Navdata , check the attributes as before and switch Radarbox back on and let me know what happens.

Thanks Runway

I think i have sorted it now. I am getting 103494 aircraft now. I had to delete the Radarbox folder after i had cut the 46Mb file and pasted it into the "original" Radarbox 2009 folder. I then copied this file again into the Airnavsystems/Data folder in my Appdata folder in my user folders.

That seems to have done the trick, now i can start looking at aircraft and know what they are rather than just a Mode-s code!

Thanks for the tips and advice!

Thats one of the problems with the windows virtual store, better to mount radarbox onto c:/airnav than through Program files.
