Radar doesn't get any airplane!!!
« on: February 17, 2011, 04:45:38 PM »
Hello people, we have a problem with the radar since few days and we would like to have a help from you to solve it. Until last week our radar worked perfectly, it received planes infos from Florence to Naples, until 300 km far from our radar and we had about 70-80 planes on the radar screen. Few days ago the radar started working not correctly anymore. It now gets not more than 2-3 planes, only planes overflying the area where the antenna is. The antenna is on the roof of a building, surrounded by open space, we didn't change the antenna position since the first time, our software is version 4.03 and the os is windows XP. Today we also performed a test on the antenna cable with a professional tester but the dispersion of the signal is really minimum. Do you have any suggestion? What can we do? How is it possible that suddenly, after 2 months working perfectly, this happened?
Thank you!

What antenna are you using outside? Is it the one we provided.

The antenna provided is not designed to be used externally for long periods.

Hi RomaSpotters, logically you'd expect a magmount antenna to be specifically designed to work outside, as in on a car roof!  Have a look at this link

http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=3554.msg34930#msg34930

the sticky back plastic peels off the base and you can check for water ingress.

Ciao Roma - the problem may also be in the box itself, caused by static electricity from the aerial. If a new aerial doesn't work you will need to have the box repaired.

Hi people, we bought and tried a new antenna but we couldn't solve our problem. It could be as bratters said or something else, but at this point we don't know what else to do by our self. I think the best thing is to send the radar box to repair, now we have a couple of questions: how does it work? Are we covered by warranty? Where do we have to send it? How long does it normally take? Thank to all of you in advance!

P.S. Thanks for the suggestion bratters, it could probably be as you say......

Hello RomaSpotters,

Sorry to hear of your problem.

Give Airnav a contact via the following...the set should be covered by a 2 year warrenty so that should help. Best of luck and here's hoping you are back up and running pretty soon.  Best regards Dave.

Ciao,
I had the same problem here in Bucharest last year, the problem was caused by static electricity...If you don't use a protection against ESD is better to disconnect the antenna from RB during the summer storm, high winds and snow.
Buona fortuna !
