Newly Picked Up Aircraft While Traveling

Hi

Been a while since I posted - as things have been going well with the unit.

However, just back from a trip to China with the box and one issue came to light and I was wondering if there is a simple solution I am missing...

While I was running the unit in hotel rooms with Internet every thing was like at home, but when using it 'out and about' all new contacts came up as Code only with no Reg. I understand why,, but wondered if there is a way to prevent this on further trips out.

In the UK I have a mobile Internet USB dongle so again no issue.

If I resubbed to Network data and left that running from home for a length of time would that preload things into my db that others are picking up??

Or is there a central db somewhere that I could preinstal with all known tie ups?

Hi Goldie,

Yes hooking up to the network will help in reducing the problem especially for the airliners and bizjets. It will however not totally eliminate the problem as no one system will always have every aircraft in the world in its database but the new Navdata will go some way in reducing the problem

There are utilities and databases available commercially, I use one myself, out there which can go a good way in giving the details that are required and I am sure these can be found from a google search.

If I am travelling on holiday for example, something I find worthwhile is to load up on the data expected in that country and location beforehand to reduce the need to carry out lots of work on return home.

Goldie all the codes will populate into mylog. Once you are reconnected to the internet. Undertake a mylog populate from the mylog file dropdown two or three times. This should then interrogate the server for the missing details and populate your Navdata and then your mylog with the details we hold.

ACW, Possibly silly question and showing my ignorance of the system, when you say "Undertake a mylog populate from the mylog dropdown two ot three time", how do you do this?

I am sure I am not the only one who may find this information useful.

Open MyLog and above the data tables there is a small dropdown menu. One of the options on that dropdawn is 'populate'. Click that. Initially it populates the navdata so you will need to repeat the process a couple of times to get the data to populate MyLog.

Hi, I knew that a couple of populates would bring in the data once back online,, thing is when you are out at the airport it is pain to have to log a bunch of hex codes in your note book... (I am a bit of here and now sort of guy - need to know if I just made the frame or not!). However thanks for the input.

Runway 31 - when you say you load up data for the region you are going to prior to departure... how do you do that?? Frame by frame?? Or is there a way to drop chunks of data in to Mylog somehow that I am missing??

Frame by frame. There is however a USB stick type database available that a couple of the forum members use but cant remember the name and it seems to to the trick for them. If my memory serves me correct it puts the data into the Navdata.

OK... wouldnt have wanted to have keyed in the Chinese fleets frame by frame prior to the trip I just made!!

The new Navdata file should hopefully be released soon by Airnav.

Yes.... It does sound a little odd!

Hopefully this new db will indeed be released to the unwashed masses soon....
