I do not like all these star shaped lines on my map.  how do I get rid of them.

There is an icon on the top with a star shape - just click that

great...thanks for that.

further to the 2d polar map.....can I get rid of the all the little identifiers on the map?   Can I create my own.

I would like to enter waypoints that aircraft in this area use most often for GPS navigation....could be a few of them

Yes you can rid of the items on the map. Go to Map in the menu and the choices are at the bottom such as Aviation/General Signs. You can toggle them off/on.

If you want to add your own way points go to File -> Preferences -> RadarBox and you can add them into the custom legend list.
