The two unknown US mil have callsigns that are associated to F15E - DIRTY and F15E GINIS both of the 492FS/48FW Lakenheath, from my Callsign 2010 book.

Haven't heard them personally or seen them.

You're welcome, but Rod has DIRTY down as a US army BE 20 so not sure but the codes tie in with my suggestion.

Sorry - I meant Navy - I was only going by the entry in MyLog. I logged it for about 40 minutes at a constant height of 14000 - more like a King Air than an F16.

Hex was AE0749, reg 163840

861ED6 - JA614A - Company populates as Star Alliance (ANA). I do not think that we should be showing the company as the Alliance network but should be the company that operates the aircraft. In this case All Nippon Airways.

Yes Chris
Agreed re Star Alliance.
Alan

This is only on the ones that have special full body paint schemes or billboard titles for the alliances. Not the ones that have the normal airline paintschemes.

http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?&q=ja614a  - in DB as Star Alliance (All Nippon Airways - ANA)
http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?&q=cc-cxj   -Oneworld (LAN Airlines)
http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?&q=XA-JBC   - SkyTeam (AeroMexico)

It follows the Airliners net protocol.  The ANet modus is to put what is painted on the side of the aircraft, therefore they have the format as above. That format was in use on the box before the updater team was formed and therefore is the format users were familiar with.  It was also contained in the original (2 year old) Navdata from before we started.  Of course new radarbox owners still get this old Navdata in the box when it is delivered, so see this format when they start.

Users appear to be split 50/50 as to whether it is a good thing or bad, we would appreciate more views as all three alliances have airlines jets in their alliance house colours.  For me personally I prefer it, as I am on the approach path to LHR and when I see this displayed on my radarbox, I know to stick my camera out of the window as a special scheme jet is approaching.  In my opinion it is the same as a Chautauqua jet operating in Delta Connection colours.  We put both airlines. It is a AeroMexico aircraft operated in Skyteam colours. Is Delta Connection not just a mini-alliance of regional airlines.

Sorry, ACW, but I want to disagree. For me the Company is what matters - we can look at the photos to see the livery. Naturally Airliners is interested in the appearance of the planes, but here, we go beyond skin deep!

If we follow your logic, then all special livery aircraft would different Companies. And a repaint would mean a database update Then we have to go further - what about Virgin's "No way, BA-AA" stickers, Jet2 Manchester logos, etc.  It would all be too much!

My view as well. SAA is part of the Star Allaince and they have one 737 painted in Star Alliance colours (ZS-SJV) This is only used on internal SAA flights and for all intents and purposes it is a SAA aircraft on SAA routes, 90% most which are not even code share routes. To me it is SAA.
As a compromise I would be happy with the company to be South African Airways (Star Alliance) but definitely not the other way around.

PS - SAA have an all white 737 as well - what would we use for that Compnay description :) :) :)

I also strongly disagree with the use of Star Alliance as the operator of the aircraft.  Star Alliance is a group of companies operating under the banner for frequent flyer, interlining and associated purposes.  Follow the route described by ACW and all the aircraft in the companies would operate as Star Alliance not just the ones in the paint scheme.  We also have One World banner and Skyteam .  As ACW stated we have operator / owner on the database, not the grouping they belong to i.e. Skyteam.

I firmly believe that we should stick to the Operator / Owner and not a description of the paint scheme as is the case in question, god knows where that would lead us.  There is normally a picture showing so it will have the paint schem showing therefore you wont be caught surprised.

I don,t see a need for the compromise suggested by Chris either for the reasons stated above.
