AirNav radarbox freezing
« on: September 29, 2010, 04:04:09 PM »
Hi,

Never had any problems with my AirNav. However last week I took advantage of the half price offer on the 5 min delay network.

Since then it keeps on freezing after a few minutes and does not restart also in my flights aircraft are shown twice and today a new record 4 times ?

Anyone any ideas ?

I am using XP , DELL Pentium 4, CPU 3.06 GHZ, 2.00 GB of RAM.

Mike.

Sounds like your machine is struggling to cope with the extra load from the network. Do you have anything else running? and how fast is your internet connection.

Hi,

Froze again today after just 10 minutes, however an alert pop up did work which I typed in as soon as switched on.

Internet speed as above all working okay and nothing else running.

PC is new DELL Studio XPS 8100, INTEL CORE i7 CPU 860 @280GHZ,8GB RAM,WIN7 64 BIT.

Never froze till network purchased which at this point is a waste of money if machine keeps freezing.

Can anyone help ??

Mike.

I think i have a similar problem.

My PC is also a new DELL Studio XPS 8100, Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @280GHZ, with 8GB RAM,WIN7 64 BIT.
The RadarBox application is working fine but freezes almost everytime during shutting down making me losing a lot of logs.

Anyone a solution for this problem?

Regards,

Dirk.

I must ask the standard questions ;)
Have you downloaded and installed the new 64bit drivers?
Did you do a standard install where the installation decides on the folder it goes into or did you choose your own folder?

No to either of these is a problem.

Dirk, do you use the red cross at the top left or use File-Exit.  Airnav doesnt like the red cross method.

Dirk,

Are you using McAfee antivirus?

Andrew

Indeed Andrew, my Dell PC is equipped with the McAfee Security Center.
The McAfee firewall has an exclusion for the RadarBox and is granting all traffic in/out.

But have you setup an exception to stop McAfee scanning the Radarbox folder for viruses?

With the latest version of McAfee, you will probably be getting locked databases.  See discussions (albeit with a different product) at
http://www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13222&p=103154
http://www.kinetic-avionics.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13144&p=102818

Secondly, where do you have ANRB installed?  If in the standard location (C:\Program Files), then you will need to understand the Virtual Folders, and setup virus scanning exceptions there as well.

Hi Tarbat,

The RadarBox application is installed on a seperate D-partition so no problems with the virtual folders.
My Dell PC is equipped with the latest version (2010) of McAfee SecurityCenter.
The only 3 options i have for realtime scanning are:
- turn off realtime scanning
- scan programs en documents
- scan all files
It's impossible to exclude one single folder i think...

Dirk.

You'll need to find someone familiar with McAfee.  I got rid of it about a year ago because there was NO WAY of excluding a folder.  See http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=3412.msg32774#msg32774

I don't know if McAfee have added that facility now.  I switched to MSE for antivirus instead.

EDIT: Sorry, link was to the beta forum.  What I posted back in September 2009:

McAfee won't help either.  There's no way to exclude the Radarbox folders in McAfee, so all file activity in RB will be virus-checked :(

When BT switched to McAfee (from Norton), I found Radarbox performance suffered.  So I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials instead, and excluded the Radarbox folder from virus checking.

For info, I run Vista Home Premium on a Dell Dimension Intel Dual Core 2.8ghz with 2gb RAM.  I install Radarbox on a separate drive, formatted as FAT32 to avoid Vista's terrible Transactional NTFS, which also hits I/O performance.

Dirk,

I also have McAfee, and AirNav was also excluded from the firewall, but AN continued to crash.

Try excluding the AirNav files from the McAfee scan.

It solved the problem for me.

Also, make sure that AirNav is installed in c:\AirNav and not the default folder.
