No blue lights - just stopped working
« on: September 16, 2010, 05:59:56 AM »
Hi all

Had my box working for 18 months - no probs. Fired it up yesterday and no USB or Signal lights on it. Box is fully functional however on my laptop.
Done the following:
Re inst 4.03
USB port showing up in device manager
USB drivers showing under USB controller
Diff USB ports & cables

Interesting thing is ANRB software is seeing something connected as it gets the network traffic which it won't if I unplug it.

Any thoughts?

Hi Dean - just to clarify things, are you saying that when connected to your PC, nothing happens yet if you simply switch the USB lead into your laptop, everything is fine?

Yes- it's been working on the PC fine until yesterday. Connect to Laptop and everythings fine.

Just checked the USB port (physical) & cable work on the PC.

I'm guessing it's something soft related as opposed to hard.

Also re-installed the USB drivers from website - does usb port 17 seem right - thats what its defaulted to and I can't find anything in ANRB software to change it. Using Win 7 BTW.

Sounds like Robin is on the right lines (above), the problem clearly being with the PC.
Do you have anything else connected via USB ports and if so is it working correctly?

Yes other USB is ok. I've also put another USB thingy on the same physical port and using the same cable so it's not that.

Has anyone else got win 7 or can check which USB port their unit is on - mine is on 17 which seems high given I only have 2 other devices as ports on my pc.

Likewise does anyone know if ANRB will pick up any com port assigned to it from Win 7?

It doesn't need a specfic port assigned.

Have you had some windows updates done recenetly, as some of these have a habit of causing drivers to be reinstalled.

I would delete the all USB ports in device manager.

Delete the airnav drivers.

Restart machine, let it find ports again. (with no usb devices connected)

Then install new drivers for the airnav box

Guys

Thanks for your advice - unfortunately it's still stuffed.

No time just now so I'll have a further try over the weekend.

just do a clean windows install. if done from a previous backup image, this takes 5 minutes. if done from scratch...potentially hours. although most can be done unattended. usually a clean install will fix most problems.

playing around with windows drivers, patches, updates, various conflicting pieces of software, restore, uninstall, reinstall may solve the problem, but it may take just as long, or longer, and it may just as well be frustrating and not solve anything.

Bit the bullet. Got myself Win 7 64bit and done a new install. Now working fine except the 3d doesn't come up at launch - I have reported this to AirNav - I hope its just their server needs to recognise my account again.

congratulations :)

now since you have a clean install unaffected by registry rot and dll hell, may I suggest you do a backup of your C/Boot drive. There are many free tools, like Macrium Reflect Free here http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

Next time you PC causes trouble - all systems tend to degrade once someone uses them... - back up your data first (or, just keep it on an different drive than the boot/system drive), then you can restore your system to a clean state in minutes.

All now working - up early and have just set the PC to do a full mirror of my basic install & key software. Promise myself every upgrade I'll do this and never have.

Hi

My radar box did the same, when starting software USB blue light flickered once, i suspected windows update had updated my ASUS motherboard USB drivers

Used 'backup and restore' in control panel and went back 2 days previous, windows update creates a restore point for this reason

Running win 7 pro 32bit
