Dave,

I suppose you mean a format with 2 letters + 3 numbers + 2 letters.

Looking down the Flight Id list there are also a number of Air France flights in this format without route info.

Are AirNav aware of this problem?

So these flights will never auto-populate?

I found to get the route to display you need to populate the NV column with something like"." and then delete it again if you dont  want to display the "." . This will then turn the box from pink to white.

Try one and see if it works by restarting

Another little bug:-)

No, those flights will never populate and yes, I believe AirNav are aware of the problem - or if they weren't, they are now :-)

Should those flights really be setting there Flight IDs to that method? Is this an pilot/airline error in entering the Flight ID.

Air Nav,

CCM Airlines have over 200 flight ID's with this format.

Air France also use this format, see screenshot below.  How can it be airline/pilot error?

As far as I am aware, they should be using the ICAO-Code format (3 letters) - I will get this confirmed.

Andrew please be aware that while they are broadcasting ADS-B, many of the rules regarding Flight IDs etc.. haven't been enforced strictly yet as many countries are not using this for ATC yet.

Does this mean that the RB will not accomodate for Flight ID's unless they are using the ICAO-Code format (3 letters).

It would appear so.

I don't know why that should be, it's only a lookup after all, but I guess we'll have to live with it.

Perhaps AirNav should contact CCM and Air France to advise them of the issue.

As mentioned earlier all aircraft should be following the ICAO format for there Flight IDs. There is no issue with our software, it was designed to handled what is specified which in this case is ICAO format flight ids.

As a famous programming saying goes, garbage in -> garbage out.

In the past when we have seen non ICAO codes they usually been mistakes and eventually been rectified. When the next version is released, if there is a significant portion of non ICAO flights appearing we may change the system to allow these routes.

The Eurocontrol rules for mode S is that you put into the transponder what is on your flight plan in field 7 of the ICAO flight plan format. That should be your ICAO flight number

No argument there.

But the issue is that, if airlines like CCM and Air France have a standard range of non-ICAO Flight IDs, which clearly they do, and if we know the routes for those flight numbers, why shouldn't we be able to put these in our local database and do lookups on them too ?

I don't understand what the difficulty is - could someone explain, please ?

Should be no problem - it is a simple sql lookup. Might need to remove some programming that does a check for the standard though

The lookup will only occur if there is 3 letters at the start of the Flight ID.

So we can assume that will be changed in the next version ?
