Diversions due to volcanic ash
« on: May 08, 2010, 05:33:52 PM »
There have been diversions and delays to trans Atlantic flights this weekend due to volcanic ash between Iceland and Spain.

It looks like flights are heading directly north over the UK and then over Iceland to reach North America.

Correct.  I've never seen so many aircraft flying over my house.  I've got an alert setup for anything within 2 miles of my location, and got over a dozen alerts yesterday.  I normally get none!!

For the record, here's a screenshot of the Atlantic south of Ireland as most transatlantic flights leaving Europe stream south of the ash cloud - pretty impressive crowding of the clear airspace!
