How do you want Air Force names presented?
« on: May 02, 2010, 03:43:49 PM »
This topic is mainly to gain the opinion of our non UK/US international users.

We are updating the AC field of the database.  Because we are mostly British the updaters cannot get concensus as to how we should present Air Force aircraft from around the world.  There are basically 3 options and we would like opinions from the non-native english speakers before making the decision which to use.

Option 1 - Anglofile name examples
-Royal Air Force
-British Army
-United States Navy
-French Army
-Kuwaiti Air Force
-Brazilian Navy
-Royal Malaysian Air Force

Option 2 - Names in local language
-Royal Air Force
-Army Air Corps
-United States Navy
-Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre
-al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Kuwaitiya
-Comando da Força Aeronaval
-Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia

Option 3 - Generic country names as used by Airliners.net
-UK - Air Force
-UK - Army
-United States - Navy
-France - Army
-Kuwait - Air Force
-Brazil - Navy
-Malaysia - Air Force

I believe option 3 is the best one.

Option 3 makes the best sense I think.

Don't forget UK - Navy :-)

Option 1 would be my preference.
ANRB :  AOR AR8000 : Icom R-7000 : Icom IC-R9000 : JRC NRD-545 : OptoElectronics Digital Scout and OptoLinx Interface; Realistic Pro-2005 : UBC 800XLT - listed in alphabetical order, not cost, preference, performance or entertainment value!

I'd vote for 3.

Easier to filter and re-order I think.

The question is of equal interest to all RadarBox users.  Even if your first language were, say, French unless you're a polyglot you're likely to have as much trouble as we Brits and Americans when it comes to names in Arabic, Portuguese, Malay, etc.

I'd vote for option 3, although I think it would be better to standardise on either UK/US or United Kingdom/United States rather than a mix of both.
