Does anyone know if there is any kml layer for google earth with the Iceland volcanic ash layer? It would be interested to plot it inside RadarBox 3D.

The only overlays I know of are satellite images available at: http://www.gearthblog.com/blog/archives/2010/04/imagery_of_the_volcanic_ash_cloud_f.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GoogleEarthBlog+(Google+Earth+Blog)

However, I've made a "quick-and-dirty" kml layer myself, which is roughly based on the metoffice.com projectory given for 17042010 0000Z. See the attached file.

It's been flying steadily at FL9950.

A Do228 at FL9950. Let's hope their pressure suits and helmets are working OK. :o)

The irony of Icelandic flights being amongst the first to depart and arrive from UK continues...

Flying through an ash cloud?  Here's what Boeing says you should do.

Got home from work to read that Scottish and Northern Ireland airspace would be re-opening from 1900 - expected to see loads of traffic via the network.

My landline broadband dead - have just reconnected via 3 mobile phone dongle instead! Now reconnected. Appears I'm not missing much!

Only flight I can see over UK is TOM128 (G-OOBK) a B763 (westbound transatlantic) - skirting the North Antrim coast. Passengers on left hand side window seats would have (may have) seen a great view of the Giant's Causeway if there was any daylight left - doubtful!

Chris

PS (slightly off subject) coast road from Belfast to at least as far as Portrush (hugging the coast all the way) has to be done - rates as one my favourite driving holidays ever!

Hi all, unbelievable, fired up the RB - My Flights 0, Network 207.   Only a few around SE France/N Italy, plenty over Portugal and Spain.   The skies in SW Cornwall are quite dramatic - no vapour trails at all - last time that happened was 2001.
ANRB :  AOR AR8000 : Icom R-7000 : Icom IC-R9000 : JRC NRD-545 : OptoElectronics Digital Scout and OptoLinx Interface; Realistic Pro-2005 : UBC 800XLT - listed in alphabetical order, not cost, preference, performance or entertainment value!

Anybody else catch the interview with the scientists on D-CALM on their return to earth this evening?

Not happy bunnies - some seriously nasty stuff up there apparently and clearly the results they brought back are not going to ease the situation.

"Speaking as an aeronautical scientist, I would not want to put a big jet up there"

Nuff said.
