Shanwick Oceanic Control on HF directing aircaft to monitor Shannon Volmet on 5505 kHz USB who are broadcasting detailed info periodically on location and altitude of volcanic ash cloud.

Only one flight rxd today (Orkney) - Mode S A67BA4  United States  9000 ft at 1231 hrs.

What is most concerning is that I have just read this headline on the Daily Telegraph website:

It also goes on to say:
The most notable previous example of Icelandic volcanic activity causing problems for Britain was in 1783, when an eruption at Laki sent a huge toxic cloud of sulphur across Western Europe, killing an estimated 23,000 Britons.

The cloud first reached Britain on 22 June and was followed by reports of a choking smog containing sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acid which attacked the lungs of its victims.

The amount of gas produced was enough to cause increase temperatures for a whole summer.

I'm picking up zero aircraft in 'MyFlights' (UK), except two Belgian Airforce F16's. They have both been up there appearing in and out of my polar diagram for about an hour now.

I bet our French radarboxers are having a field day. Currently watching on the network KLM Amsterdam-Canada flights transiting the northern coast of France to get to Oceanic (presumably southern) routes.
