I've just seen a plane!

3C650B  DLH447   KDEN-EDDF       D-AIHK  A346  Lufthansa            2010/04/20 08:31:58

This was the third Lufthansa tranatlantic to pass over Yorkshire this morning and there is a fourth one on it's way.

DHL447 and 493 doing their thing - both A346s and both were visual as well as on the box and off to Frankfurt. They both increased  height by 1000 feet as they went over this area. As bratters said, we live in hope!!

For anyone interested, there's a very comprehensive discussion on the SKYbrary website (Eurocontrol's wiki) re the Flight Safety implications of volcanic ash:

www.skybrary.aero/index.php/Managing_the_Risk_to_the_Safety_of_Aircraft_in_Flight_Caused_by_Volcanic_Ash?utm_source=SKYbrary&utm_campaign=a0d9fbc1ae-SKYbrary_Highlights_20_4_2010&utm_medium=email

Looking almost busy over Scotland now - even north sea helicopters are flying, presumably to enable workers to get to and from the oil rigs.

Also see that the Air Ambulance aircraft (Beech Super King Air 200) are flying today, so at last people will be able to get to hospital.

All have landed or are on finals for Prestwick.  B757C-FLEU looks like it is trying for Manchester.

I hvae just seen a Thomson aircarft make an approach at manchester, flew over my house but appeared to be in the wrong place for a 23R approach unless it was making a very short approach. Manchester is supposed be shut until 1900 according t oits website
