Hi Phil,

Not sure why you locked your own post, Anyway I have unlocked it now. Whats the proccesor speed of your machine, is it very slow opening up the menus in RadarBox 2007?

You can change the update of the aircraft on the screen by going to File -> Preferences and making the screen refresh rate lower.

Hi Phil,

You maybe getting confused in thinking the system will pick up the positions continusally and the movement will be smooth. Infact the position data is sent every half a second from the aircraft and hence why you will see them pause for a bit.

i see ,is that explain why the rotating radar stops and starts as it is updating the data received? .

The radar image is just an animated image, it should not be taken as literally what the RadarBox is doing.

Phil

I experienced the same and would argue that the number of sweeps is an indicator of what is going on - the more sweeps between pauses the 'better' the machine ie your PC. The Radarbox really tests your pc in terms of processor and graphics card. If you uncheck 'Share data' on the Radarbox tab in File / Preferences you should see a big improvement and in my case a lot less disk swopping while the program is running. V1.4 is supposed to use less RAM so it may allow data sharing with less consequences.

Regards
Gerry

Sharing Data has very little affect to the speed unless you are not connected to the internet (this was an issue in previous version). The actual sharing data process is still running when you deselect the button (it stops sending to our server) but I am sure the data is still being outputed on the 7879 port for you to access locally.

Wouldn't those pauses of the animated gif just reflect the clock cycles being used by the CPU? Higher CPU load = slow-pause-stopped gif?

Yes in theory, however his machine should easily be coping with RadarBox 2007, we have machines which are only 2ghz P4 coping well in London with large amounts of traffic.

It could be other applications which together cause the teh CPU usage to be high. Rest assured 1.4 will be faster and more memory freindly.

I only run Radarbox on a Toshiba laptop with 160ghz speed and only 640mb of RAM and it runs with sharing and network running with no problems. I also often have PlanePlotter running on it as well - also sharing with RB.

What I have done though is kept the number of other programs running on that PC to a minimum.

However, I have a 20mb boadband connection and it was a different story with my ol 4mb connection............

160ghz! You must be using liquid nitrogen cooling, Mike! :-)

So 1.6ghz handles the RB easily....good to know.
