What can be done to avoid these problems? Any suggestions? What is the most accurate aircraft information external database we can rely on?

GAS has the old date, airframes.org has the updated data in addition to the old details.

The date of the new registration is 2009-10-19 so I guess that GAS is lagging behind.  Even so, the old details won't be overwritten in the RB database even when GAS is updated.

Best bet Dave is to submit the change of details to the GAS website as a start?

Yes, GAS is one of the best sources, but it does rely on people (like Dave) submitting updates to keep it up-to-date ;)

I keep GAS's lookup program ( http://www.gatwickaviationsociety.org.uk/sbs_populatebeta.asp ) open on my desktop all day, just so that I can do quick checks.

The problem is that we already get this data from GAS, automatically.
What is the GAS sources are wrong? Alternatives?

I would say http://www.airframes.org/ is one of the best, if only you could get agreement from them to use their database.

The example DaveReid gives is up-to-date on http://www.airframes.org/

airframes.org bans the use of 'bots' for lookups, so an agreement would definitely be needed.

--------------------------

No bots, please ...

No bots, spiders, scrapers, scripted or otherwise automated queries, please.

As an exception, bots are tolerated only as long as they respect the robots.txt standard and if their purpose is to index this site to be included in a public search engine. And that is just a handfull like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc.

Spidering this site violating this rule by sending private harvesting bots or otherwise sending automated queries is considered abuse. Violating bots will be blocked and/or publicly listed.

We believe we did contact airframes.org on a few occasions before but didn't actually get a reply. Development can confim.

That is totally correct. We've sent several email to airframes.org but we didn't a single reply from them. We would be interested in feeding our server with their aircraft data. Does anyone have their private email contact? Please send us a PM if that is the case.

www.aircraftId.com is used by organisations like Eurocontrol and EASA to validate and clean their in-house aircraft databases, why not go and talk to them ?

Agenda or no agenda, we'd all be happier with accurate database contents...

Nope - it was a simple statement of fact, in response to a direct question by AirNav which solely asked about accuracy.

What AirNav presumably meant to ask was:

What is the most accurate aircraft information external database we can rely on other than those run by people and organisations we don't like ?

I have no idea what the answer to that question is !

Answers to questions like that tend to zero.

I remember at a previous company I worked for when the MD had just heard that another similar company in the industry had gone bust saying " Who is there left to hate now?"

Really Dave.  Airnav asked "what is the most accurate aircraft information external database", and you replied www.aircraftId.com.  But conveniently failed to mention that you are the CEO of AvGen, who operate the www.aircraftId.com service.

I guess you would say its the most accurate!!
