SHARE YOUR DATA
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:03:24 PM »
When I leave work I leave our unit running overnight for you all to see!

Lets see some of you guys across the Pond doing the same.

If we all leave our units running 24/7 on the network we will be able to see what is happening worldwide. If we only have data when people are home it will al be very boring.

So come on guys lets leave them on when we are out and really share our data

Regards
CHRIS @ ML&S

Quick question.  Is there an option in RB to just upload your data without downloading others?  This is something I use all the time in Planeplotter to share my data 24/7, without the bandwidth overheads of downloading everyone else's data.  Useful for those on a limited bandwidth ISP.

As I understand it even If you dont download from the network you can still have your device set to upload what you are seeing. Preferences RadarBox Share Flight data

Yes Roadrunner its correct, you will be sharing regardless of downloading network data unless you tick the box in preferences.

How to know if my datas are realy shared ? I visited this page :

http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/network.php

and I don't see my position.

Of course, I ticked the "share flight data" in RadarBox Preference. It's the fourth day I'm on the network and I don't know if my received traffic is broadcasted...

Did you see the comment under the map - which is as follows:

Note that the locations shown are not those specified by each user. They are extracted from the user IP address for greater accuracy. Some stations may be missing.

Mike

Yes, I did Mike, but nothing seems to be like my IP address except if it is a mistake from myself. I will try to trace it. Thanks for helping.

I actually wonder at the validity of using the IP address. If you are connected to something like NTL Broadband I think it shows everybody in Stevenage as being in Luton.

It would be much more fun showing peoples real positions from their Forum declared location.

It would be more interesting with the actual positions taken from the home location in RadarBox however that would be a invasion of privacy.

This is the closest we can get without actually allowing people to list there position.

How about if end users could waver this information.  I'm sure you could knock up some sort of text?

The fact that in my case a peg would be on Helston, Cornwall does not pin-point my house or anything more than a location that has 1000's of house.
