money
« on: January 02, 2008, 10:20:48 PM »
i can not decide which box to buy
but does airnav cost £120 a year
for internet connection,????
is a one off payment not better,
in say three years thats £360+£460 for airnav
thats nearly £840, and the air airnav second hand will
be worth about £200
your paying £500 for 3 years usage
does not sound right.

Hi Robbie,

The first year for the RadarBox Network is free. After that its up to you decide whether you want it or not.

The RadarBox network is explained below:
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=10.0

You do NOT need to pay the subscription for the network to use RadarBox. If you do not choose to  pay the subscription after the first year only the network feature will be deactivated you will still be able to receive local flights which you get through your antenna.

Hope that explains things.

I have an idea.
The year has 365 days. About 8760 hours.
If someone share data over AirNav Network for minimum 5000 hours = 210 days his take a bonus free subscription for 2 more months.
Is that nice or not? :)

Have a look at your account details and you will notice a credit hours in the settings. This was a possibility before when we launched.

Anyhow this has all been discussed before, have a search of the forum :)

My account says :

Account was created on: 2007/06/30 17:29
Account valid until: 2008/06/29 17:29

Monthly Usage:
This month started at: 2008/01/02 17:29
This month will end at: 2008/02/02 17:29

Contracted per month: 100000 (69 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes)
Minutes used this month: 0 (0 days, 0 hours and 0 minutes)
Minutes credited this month: 0 (0 days, 0 hours and 0 minutes)
Minutes available this month: 100000 (69 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes)

Only per month says and in forum i have read only this:
Hi Allocator,

You can still share you data regardless whether you have a subscription after the first free year.

Hope that helps.

Sorry if i miss something :)

Hi Robbie,

We can talk about this again, my last post had a :) to indicate that we are happy to discuss this but there are already loads of posts about this.

Anyhow we understand your concern But:

1.) We are not forcing you to have the network, you do not need it to recieve local flights.

2.) Its very very unlikely now the price will rise, infact it will decrease. Take a look at the post below :)
http://www.airnavsystems.com/forum/index.php?topic=357.0

FlightHigh:

Allocater says correctly you can share your data with the network after the subscription expires but you won't be able to download any data from the network. You will only be contributing.

Hope that helps.

I have said this before and say it again. You will be expecting people to continue sharing even if they cant afford to pay £120 a year to receive data. If I cant have the data I will not share it.

It could be a disaster for you because the people who pay will do so while not knowing how many have not paid and how much of a decrease this could cause to the traffic available that they are paying for :-)

In the post which was linked above we have mentioned that it will be much less than £120 per year. More details will be announced soon.

We have taken on board your comments from the last 4 months and have reduced it (don't ask how much yet as we can't tell you yet :) ).

Robbie:

Why is it a con? we have explained that you do not need it if you do not want it. We have also announced that it will be less than originally announced. Have some faith :)

RoadRunner:

We agree that it may turn away some customers, though we have had positive emails sent to us personally saying that they will be happy to pay, guess we will have to wait and see. Also we would hope regardless there would always be new customers who would be using there one years free network.

One thing we can say is that we would not be having this discussion if the feature was not popular :)

Is that Popular because its free!!!

I myself will wait and see the final price before deciding.  I could do without it, but the price will be the deciding factor.  It seems a shame to have Europe and the rest of the world building up coverage for it to drop off when payments are required.  As RR said, if you do not pay would you share? not sure many will and this will hit those that do pay as coverage will be less.  (catch 22 I think)

Current my system is on 24/7 even if I never use it myself, why....  Because it is free, same reason as I'm sharing on PP.

So I'll have some faith and wait.

All,

Tried this earlier but it didn't send.

I've been using Airnav stuff for ten years now. Back in the good old days of crackly HF it was a case of trying to type faster than the man in Shanwick before he got on to the next aircraft. He always won but it was still cutting edge stuff back then to see the aircraft plots moving across the screen.

The RB is no different now as what it presesnts was almost impossible to think of 3 or 4 years ago. It's a bit like subscribing to SKY or a satellite SP. You don't have to take all the premium services. For me, an aircraft enthusiast,  the RB is 100%. It can ID aircraft in line of sight. I'm not particularly interested in what's overflying Poland or Germany right now but if I felt I really needed to know that information I wouldn't have a problem in paying for it - after all I don't manage the data or provide the service.

By the same token I don't feel that the information I 'own' is so valuable as not to share it with others. I wouldn't have a problem in supplying it to a service provider free of charge as I see it as as value to me only.

That's my 20 cents worth.
