IPhone App - "Plane Finder"
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:57:36 PM »
Hi All,

Just downloaded the above app onto my iPhone.

Opening the App shows aircraft silhouettes overflying a map of SE England (only SE England at the moment).
Tapping on an aircraft silhouette brings up the reg. and (where available), routing and altitude.
A further tap then brings up another screen showing more detail such as type, speed, hex code, etc., and a further tap takes you to photos, or centres the map on the aircraft.

Needless to say, it's  5 minute delayed.

Not bad for when you're out and about....

I'm trying to think what this £ 2.99 App reminds me of :o)

Anybody else had a look at this ?

Needless to say, it's  5 minute delayed.

The author is reportedly considering removing the delay now that the consensus seems to be that real-time networking is the new de facto standard.

Living close to Heathrow as I do, that would make it a brilliant App for mobile use. Let's hope that'll happen !

Hi All

I now have my Iphone up and running with Plane Finder.  This is a very good app, you can also feed data into the app if you are using planeplotter.

The 5 Min delay has now been removed.

The more people that feed data into the app, the better it will get.

Cheers

For those in Europe - and those interested in Europe - it's confirmation that the days of the five minute delay are over.

Hello,

I am the developer of Plane Finder and glad you all like it so much.  We are constantly developing it and I have just submitted the next version to Apple so look out for that!

What we need from people like yourselves is to help build the network of data.  If you are interested please mail [email protected].  We can get you on the early release program for any beta's etc.

Thanks chaps,

Lee

First thing my BOSS said to me this morning, as he showed me his Iphone, was is that your dot on the map? Looks good to me, saves me logging on to my laptop at home to see whats overhead.
