If this is a "plug-in" as stated on W & S website, I'm assuming that you could continue to run the standard programme on an old machine, but elect to load the "plug-in" onto an up to date unit. The reason I ask is that until last week I had 2 useable computers, an Evesham using XP3 and a Mesh which I loaded Windows 7 into and struggled as it kept shutting the USB ports down. The psu then failed in spectacular fashion and the surge has wrecked most of the internals! I now have a unit equipped with an Intel i-5 Quadcore plus 4GB RAM, and a Radeon graphics card which has 1GB memory on the way!
I would have guessed that although this is a mediocre machine by today's standards, it should run the 3D add-on without too much trouble?
Tarbat will probably know the answer to this one.

I can run Google Earth ok on my laptop. Even the built in GE flight simulator is useable.

The frame rates are not going to impress a diehard flight sim fanatic, but certainly useable.

I guess that means RB3D will run ok.

Look at the CPU load from GE when it's running alone, do the same for RadarBox, add up the numbers and that should allow you to see if together the two programs will hit 100% and thus cause things to slow down.

Thanks for replies. Google Earth will run on the Evesham, albeit a bit slow and lumpy, so seems pretty certain that I would have no trouble on the new unit when it arrives. Definitely food for thought.

From the screen shots I've seen so far, I must admit, a new laptop is on the cards.

I think the RB3D combined with live network is a real winner.

A tad pricey, but overall it looks worth every cent if your serious about this hobby.

I know RB3D uses Google Earth but is there any way of having a google maps terrain view?

Also, with the 3D google earth view,  are you able to just drag the view to get a new rendered google earth view, or do you have to do what you currently do for satellite view.. eg. ctrl D to get a new downloaded view.

Yes you can drag the view to where-ever you like and the new view is rendered automatically, even in the animated modes, like pilot view.

Hi All,

To be honest I would be skeptical of going the 3D route at this stage simply because of the load it will place on my PC.

I would rather stick with a 2D version that performs exceptionally well and plots aircraft correctly and efficiently.

However, I would like to see the 2D version have as standard an improved base terrian map that gives you a better feel for the contours/type of earth surface over which the aicraft are flying.

We don't get many aircraft in the hold at Inverness, but here's a video of a couple of aircraft passing nearby (with update set to 5 seconds).
