Problem with AAL121 Tonight?
« on: November 02, 2009, 10:07:47 PM »
Anyone know what's happening to AAL121 LFPG-KJFK?    I picked up holding south of the Isle of Wight at FL160 then FL110 for about 90 minutes, then it disappeared off the Myflights and Network lists.

About 10 minutes ago it reappeared on the network but with no position info then disappeared again after 5 minutes.

Any ideas?

Nick

Faulty weather radar, per the LHR list.

Faulty weather radar. Does that warrant a diversion? Seems a bit extreme to us though safety is number one I guess.

A faulty weather radar is classed as a 'Nil dispatch item' from base for most airlines.  It could have also been a double radar failure and if poor weather was forecast across the Atlantic then even with one out it's a no-brainer really.
Located 2 miles South of LHR.

Your boss might well disagree.

I know if I'm a passenger I like the guys up front to know what they are flying into or, if necessary, around.

Hi
Another site think it may have been related to its nose wheel.

I saw it heading back towards Heathrow - anyone know if it landed there this time too?

And welcome to the forum, Cerij101. It's always nice to see old threads again ;-)

Seems another issue with AA121 on 8th April 2011.

Incident: American B752 over Atlantic on Apr 8th 2011, unexplained nose gear deployment
An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, registration N199AN performing flight AA-121 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was enroute at FL340 over the Atlantic about 120nm west of Brest (France) when the crew descended the aircraft to FL250, then FL200 and FL100 entering a holding near Cardiff,WL (UK). The airplane was seen at FL100 with the nose gear down, however both main gear struts retracted with gear doors closed. The airplane continued for a safe landing at London Heathrow about 3 hours after leaving FL340
