JSTARS For RadarBox
« on: July 12, 2009, 10:28:55 AM »
I am the author of JSTARS http://jstars.altervista.org/ and I am trying to understand if JSTARS works well with RadarBox.
Did anyone make a test or use it?
Does a radarbox emulator/simulator exist to test its flow data on port?

For me it's important to understand which kind of data are useful for further features.

Any comments/feedback are welcome.

Regards
Rob

Refreshing the subject of the JSTARS Software aircraft detection and logging add-on software (yes, I KNOW that I keep saying that RadarBox doesn't need any add-ons, but I DO like this one).

The latest V3.0 Beta Patch 1 undergoing closed Beta testing now works very well with Rob's JSTARS program.  I've registered JSTARS and am using the latest version as Rob has continued to develop the program.  His website is here:

The good news is that JSTARS uses the ID message that comes out of Port 30003 in real-time, although for a logging program, I don't suppose that it makes a great deal of difference if the information is live or not.  Anyway, here a few screen shots.

That's the mil log for today.  JSTARS has an adjustable timer to prevent getting double 'hits' if the same aircraft is detected a few minutes apart.  I'm still experimenting with this, hence the occasional duplicate.

As Allocator reported, JSTARS has a system to prevent code duplication in its log, due to its log engine that sometime could be "joked" by not constant data/callsign transmission from traffic. It depends from many variables, like distance from traffic and your antenna, traffic is not transmitting always its callsign, crew/on board computer sets/changes often their callsign, this means that on port 30003 will arrive many ID/AIR data rows that would be logged.... to avoid it, I added a timer based on my experimental tests and I found good a time of 4 minutes, usually is the best choice.

Hi JSTARS,

Thanks for the information.  I expect that there will be a number of RB users who want to try out JSTARS once they get the latest version of the RB software with the correct port 30003 output - sometime this week with a bit of luck.

Time to have a play with JSTARS if you want to experiment with a logging add-on as this works well with the new V3.0 release of RB.  The unregistered version has some of the options disabled, but it still detects the aircraft and writes the logs.

Hello mate, I am having problems saving logs - is this because I am using the lite version.

Cheers

Looks like a nice add-on to me

Yes, it works great with the v3.01 beta.  In fact it was one of the addons we specifically tested during closed beta testing.
